  1. I still have the opportunity to follow this stuff; I get the USA Today on my hotel doorstep every day. Fortunately, the trash can is nearby. (Wait, is this offensive to someone in Arlington/Northern Virginia?)
  2. Building and infrastructure construction quality in Haiti is quite poor...the term "house of cards" comes to mind. Lots of corrugated steel, cardboard and plywood dwellings. Public buildings seem to have been built at low cost, possibly with someone pocketing the difference between the money made available for the project and what was actually spent. Couple this with the likelihood of water-borne disease in a few days, resulting from poor hygiene and sanitation, and yes, I can see a terrible outcome. (Note: I have not been following the news reports; I don't watch TV. I'm just going on my recollections. So if someone "on the ground" or someone with expertise tells you different, discount or dismiss anything I say.)
  3. It's hard not to think of nice people that I've met during my visits. A long, sad history, yet still nice people, many of whom have/had maintained an upbeat and positive outlook. Sometimes, I wished I prayed.
  4. Happy Happy! Enjoy.
  5. That's the Bob Parlocha playlist. Hard to tell cause and effect here, though.
  6. I hope it's a great one!
  7. Jessica Williams' Nothin but the Truth is a gem from her earlier days. Bud Spangler, better known for his radio work, does good on drums. Swingin'.
  8. Yeah, and Mosaic's pretty much got a monopoly on these things now. Wait until they quit selling them and pick 'em up on eBay.
  9. Well, Mosaic is located in Connecticut, one of the 13 American "colonies"; perhaps they're still upset. (Hopefully, that wasn't offensive to anyone. Wasn't intended to be. I never can predict anymore.)

  11. Have a grrrrreat one!
  12. Ginseng is a quartet date with Archie Shepp, Wilbur Little and Clifford Jarvis (Volcanic 24083) Three for Freedom is a trio with Shepp and Mal Waldron (Volcanic 18018) Would prefer CDs. I've tried Jazz Loft, Cadence and DMG). Looks like it may be possible (but expensive and hassle-filled) to get at least one of these through the artist's website. Options? Oh, and GEMM has Ginseng at top-dollar; CDHut has Ginseng, but not 3fF.
  13. "Never Again" and the two Scepters are among the treasures of Moody listening experiences. My listening experiences, period. Another: "Feelin' It Together" w/Kenny Barron, Larry Ridley and Freddie Waits. This was one of the first LPs I digitized so I could carry it with me on my MP3 player (pre-iPod days). I caught Moody live a number of times in this era. Every performance left me smiling for days. Energy, spirit...chops.
  14. I very much enjoy reading Signal to Noise; I only wish I had the capacity to take them!
  15. Happy birthday Tony! Go for a ride.
  16. 86 Blues 78s for $990. Blues greats like Isham Jones and Paul Whiteman. Can't say I spotted anything worth more than a buck or two. Just to be clear, this is the listing/Buy It Now price, not what it sold for!
  17. I hope it's a GREAT one!
  18. I love this set. If you like it half as much, it was a deal.
  19. It rewinds MP3s too?
  20. Your wife actually knows of Tina Brooks? Awesome ! If my wife had picked this up based on the presence of "Tina Brooks", it would have been on the assumption that Tina was female.
  21. I take it this Barry guy had some problems with "snow"?
  22. Yes, I know it's mostly Italian (including all the words I've chosen here, I thin) but what beautiful words and images! I've been looking over some old orchestral scores. Accelerando Fortissimo Con brio Fermata Arpeggiato Furioso Vivace Dolcissimo Poco a Poco Volante Tutti Glissando Staccato Pizzicato Lamentando Sforzando
  23. I was in town for the storm 25 years ago. I remember the Metro wasn't running. I was in a hotel at Farragut North. The hotel had to bring in our food. Nothing nearby was open. I hope those affected this year fare better.
