  1. Why is Thom Jurek reviled? "He glistens with excitement!" That has to be one of the most unpleasant mental images I've had conjured up by a thread, ever.
  2. Dave Grohl from the Foo Fighters tore off part of Chick's shirt, exposing his nipple.
  3. Erik - Great idea! I'll have to browse the site tomorrow.

I agree 100%. His album, Black Water, is fantastic. I also really enjoy his playing on Vijay Iyer's discs.

A while back someone had asked about the Orchester 33 1/3 disc, I can't remember who it was. I recently had a chance to hear it and it is interesting, but not essential. I lucked out and found two Last Exit albums on vinyl for under $5 each the other day. I know have the self-titled album and Noise of Trouble (with Herbie Hancock? curious to hear how he fits into the mix) to explore this week. My favorite Joe Morris, so far, is Age of Everything, on Riti. I was very impreressed by Timo Shanko on bass.
  7. updated, with price reductions.
  8. I have LP copies of Live Evil, Nefertiti, You're Under Arrest and Man With the Horn for sale. I purchased Live Evil and Nefertiti new, opened them, and listened to each once. Man w/ the Horn and Under Arrest were purchased used and have a bit more wear to the sleeves (including a small price sticker on each sleeve) although the vinyl itself is in great condition. I'm really not sure what the going rate would be for any of these so, if you are interested in maing an offer or have questions about the exact conditions of any of the sleeves or vinyl drop me a PM or email me at johnbondvt@yahoo.com.
  9. No limits.
  10. What is the best deal that would also allow you to fulfill your obligation to buy one full price disc? Is there any "buy one get some # free deal" that comes around? I also got notification that BMG will be shipping the correct discs and I can keep the wrong ones I received earlier. Surprisingly, someone already picked up the Shakira disc when I listed it for sale.

  12. I agree with a lot of what Randy has to say. This is a very pleasant disc that, upon first listen, does come accross as almost too polite. There are still some tracks that are just not too my taste but I am appreciating the disc more each time I listen to it. I'll post more specific thoughts in a day or two. After that, if someone else wants to give the disc a spin I'd be happy to share it with someone else on the board.
  13. Tom - my condolences to you and your family.
  14. I have a copy of Chick Corea's five disc box set Music Forever and Beyond for sale. It has been played once and everything is in near-mint condition. $28 plus $5 shipping in the U.S. $8 shipping internationally. Checks, money orders, Paypal and well-concealed cash are all fine. PM me if you have any questions, thanks!

The Eskelin / Bennink is really good, but you should be able to find it for reduced price fairly easily.
  16. I have some vinyl that I am considering selling, but I have no clue what a realistic price to set would be. Is there any online resource I could use to help price these records before selling them? thanks!

  18. It has been hard to avoid looking, but I have tried to avoid looking at people's guesses before continuing... Disc One: 1) The trumpet doesn't sound like Dizzy to me but the early bebop big band sound does make me think of him. I'm not very failar with this era, so I'm going to guess it's a band of Dizzy's from the late 40's / early 50's. I enjoyed this track more than I expected to. 2) My first thought was Woody Shaw, circa Moontrane / Little Red’s Fantasy. Great playing by all involved and some fiery soloing. I haven’t gone back to the album to listen (which I need to do soon) , but my guess is that it is track 8 off of this disc: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A5l63mppf9f1o 3) I really like the mellow, laid-back vibe on this track. For a second I thought I was hearing Herbie Hancock on piano, but I’m pretty sure it’s not him, Bobby Hutcherson on vibes, no clue on the rhythm section. If that is Sam Rivers on sax I think I know which disc this is…I love how hearing a track out of context of its album can make it sound so different and unexpected! 4) No clue who this is, but I really dig the groove these guys create. I’m very interested in finding out who this is. 5) I still think this sounds an awful lot like Matthew Shipp but, on closer listen, I don’t think it is. No clue, but I really like this track. 6) Not my style at all. No clue. 7) No clue who this is, but I really enjoy the interplay of the sax and bass. 8) Ornette on Atlantic? No clue, otherwise. 9) Immediately I’m thinking Duke. Don’t know which album this live track is from. 10) Trane. Not a performance that leaps to mind when I think of him, but great, nonetheless. It’s amazing how quickly he went from this sound to the later Impulse albums. 11) It sounds like something that could have been recorded at the same sessions as the Wildflowers Jazz Loft discs. I only know of one version of this tune with vocals, so I am going to guess it is on this album: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=A985h8qz9btb4 I really don’t care for the vocals at all, so I won’t be buying a copy of this disc anytime soon. Onto disc two in a bit...
  19. Tom - My deepest sympathies. It sounds like you and your family are dealing with this as well as could be hoped for. Take care, and keep treasuring those good memories you have of your mother.

I need to pick up the Cecil Taylor. Anyone who doesn't own the Dark Tree should get it asap. It is an essential set.
  21. is nessarecords.com taken too? that seems to be the usual "next best" choice.

I've never made it past European Echoes in exploring his work as a leader. Actually, other than Brotzmann, I am woefully lacking in work by that whole "scene." No Evan Parker as a leader (Monoceros is on order), no Schlippenbach other than the UMS discs, etc... I need to rectify this sooner or later.
  23. I'm having no problems accessing JC now.

speaking of Miles Davis, here's some European free-jazz trivia for you all: did you know that Manfred Schoof appears on the Miles Davis & Quincy Jones Live at Montreux disc?
  25. Excellent! The Byard disc caught my eye recently. I'll wait for a good sale and grab it one of these days.
