I had one incorrect cd set sent the last time I was a member (and got to keep the incorrect discs) but couldn't believe how many were wrong this time. I now have cds by Shakira, Barenaked Ladies, Bob Dylan, The Allman Bros. and John Hiatt that I don't want. I did pick up RVGs of Roll Call, Natural Soul and Am I Blue, so I'll have those to tide me over until the correct discs - the new Chucho Valdes, Jackie's Bag, Grantstand and Universal Conciousness show up. The first thing I did when I opened the package was log into BMG and send an email to customer service.

I just rejoined BMG and, instead of sending me my seven introductory discs, they sent me eight, five of which are wrong. Anybody want a sealed Shakira disc? I knew they had a reputation for getting orders "confused" before but this is ridiculous!

I think it's pretty sad that, after these links were posted here, there are first posts by new members on each board harassing Geoff. If it is someone from here you really need to get a life. He is 19 years old and enthuiastic about jazz, is that a crime these days? I'm fairly certain I couldn't have been as articulate about these discs as he has been when I was his age. IMO the more people who want to praise Herbie Nichols and Wal Waldron rather than Brittney Spears or Limp Bizshit the better. "As for "netiquette" I don't think it matters, I'm just saying that Geoff hasn't favored us with new stuff, he's just giving us reprints." Why do you even care? I said it before, if you don't like his way of writing or the subjects he writes about or are so knowledgable about jazz that you have nothing to learn from the reviews he writes then don't read his posts. Not everyone has been listening to this music for decades. Obviously Geoff is really excited about this music and this is a great thing! Rather than bitch and moan how about recommending another disc for him to check out (the Organissimo disc is a great suggestion, if copies are still available) or post your own review of another "unheralded" album for people to explore?

hamiddrake.com. I bookmarked the site since it seems to be very up to date with tour dates.

based on the AMG review this disc sounds fantastic! I will definitely add this to my ever-expanding "to buy" list.

This is a really strong and , imo, unjustly overlooked at times, disc. I really dig this one.

Organissimo Picked As One of the Best of 2003
John B replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in organissimo - The Band Discussion
Great news! The recognitions is well-deserved. -
The premise sounds a bit far-fetched to me. I have a difficult time believing that Tool went through all of that trouble in addition to writing and recording the albu and going through a protracted legal battle with their label. IMO, if you hear it, it is true. Doesn't it all come down to your own personal experience / interpretation of the album in the end? That being said, I'll program the tracks in the order the author of the article recommends and see if it flows any better that the album sequence.

fyi: I believe Arcana Major has gone, or is about to go, out of print. I was able to get a copy from Gino, so I will be posting my thoughts once I have a chance to give it a few spins.

I need to pick up this album sometime. Dave Lombardo is just jaw-dropping on it. I love the title track and remember opening a few of my radio shows in college with "Expendable Youth." today: John Patton - Boogaloo Horace Parlan - Us Three Joe McPhee - Nation Time Martin Siewert / Martin Brandlmayr - Too Beautiful to Burn Polwechsel / Fennesz - Wrapped Islands nanoCluster - 02/2000 The Soegaard Ensemble - Chronox
-
Yes, that's a good one. I was spinning it the other day and was reminded that I need more Shirley Scott in my collection.
-
Chaney - the nanoCluster disc is very good. Thank you for recommending it!

You are all a very expensive crowd to associate with... B) an email has been sent to Rastascan checking on Arcana Major's availability.
-
amazon has it for $18, which seems pretty reasonable for 2 dvds....is it thatbad or is it just not up to the level of the Stern's Grove show? Lon - you will love that disc. I was just playing it the other night and converted my wife. She was asking if TBS were touring anytime soon after hearing the show.
