  1. Free For All gets my vote for #1 choice. also - Slint - Spiderland Black Flag - Damaged Ramones - Its Alive Misfits - Walk Among Us Fugazi - Repeater and most of the discs on Erstwhile need a lot of volume in order to hear a lot of the detail. This usually requires me to use headphones as my wife can't tolerate any Erst disc I've played so far.
  2. the best band name I ever saw was The Reverend Pimp Daddy and his Deacons of Love.
  3. I can never rank my favorites discs as they are all so very different. It is comparing apples to oranges. I love all of them for different reasons.

  11. there is a button above the space you type your main message labelled "IMG." you would click on that button and paste the URL of an image you found on the web and the image would appear in the body of your text. to get image/text/image/text you would: type some text, hit Enter click on the IMG button and paste the address of your image hit Enter type some more text hit Enter click on the IMG button again, etc...
  12. Bev - your post above is missing the .jpg at the end of the address. Also, the directions Chaney gave will only work for an image you find on the web or an image that is being hosted by Organissimo (such as your avatar.) It will not work for an image on your hard drive.
  13. Jimmy Smith - at Club Baby Grand vol. 2 Jimmy Smith - The Sermon McCoy Tyner - The Real McCoy Trio Hurricane - Live at Fire in the Valley Spaceways Incorporated - Thirteen Cosmic Standards
  14. I just finished spinning The Incredible Jimmy Smith at Club Baby Grand vol.1 and was blown away by how much this set smokes! I already own Baby Grand vol.1 and 2, Cool Blues and Root Down and was wondering what other live Jimmy Smith discs have similar fire and are essential next discs to explore?
  15. Jimmy Smith - at Club Baby Grand vol.1 probably my favorite Jimmy Smith discs. This set smokes! Jemeel Moondoc Trio - LIve at Fire in the Valley Reuben Wilson - Blue Mode Haunted House - Up in Flames
  16. He is also a member of the Italian Instabile Orchestra and I would highly recomemnd their disc Litania Sibilante on Enja.

  18. Amir - let me know if that lead pans out, it would be appreciated! I might have a lead on a copy of the Bruno/Mateen disc, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. It doesn't seem like Eremite will be repressing either of these titles anytime soon.
  19. I now have a new reply for the "Watcha want for the next batch of Conns" thread.
  20. Thank you! I appreciate the offer!
  21. no need to apologize, this disc deserves all of the raves it gets! for some reason this one seems to slip under a lot of people's radar.
  22. I am going to be placing an order with Eremite to fill in some gaps in my Sabir Mateen collection and found that two of the discs I wanted are OOP. Raphe Malik - ConSequences Tom Bruno / Sabir Mateen - Getting Away with Murder I was hoping someone here could help with a used copy for sale or trade or, barring that, a cdr until they are back in print and I can order a copy directly through Eremite. thanks!
  23. Gianluigi Trovesi Otteto - Fugace Sonny Clark - Cool Struttin' Art Blakey - The Jazz Messengers Romano/Sclavis/Texier - Suite Africaine Tyrone Washington - Do Right Polwechesl/Fennesz - Wrapped Islands Ravi Shankar - Golden Jubilee Concert v.1 Nonesuch Explorer - the Real Bahamas in Music and Song Nonesuch Explorer - Trinidad: The Sound of the Sun
  24. I've spun this disc a few times and have been digging it more and more each time. Imagine the Italian Instabile Orchestra interpreting early 20th century American jazz with a dah of electronica thrown in. Great fun! I think a lot of people - not just fans of Italian jazz - would really enjoy this disc. The performances are exciting, the writing is fresh and the entire program is so joyful and exhuberant that I can't help but feel better after a few tracks. One of my top discs for 2003.
  25. I didn't think I had ever heard Elliott Smith live, but one of my friends just reminded me that we saw him in 1995 opening up for Mary Lou Lord at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. I hadn't realized that was him, as I wasn't aware of his music at the time. I enjoyed his set, but wish I could go back and see him with the fuller appreciation of his work that I have developed since.
