  1. That double-album reprint that includes the Ellington/Coltrane album and the one he did with Coleman Hawkins. Great music, lousy cover.
  2. That was the difference between Cartier-Bresson and the rest of us. The expression 'The Decisive Moment' defined this Master! I rank in the top 3 photographer that ever lived. Who are the other two, in your opinion? (Just curious.)
  3. Anybody got the Peggy Lee Properbox?
  4. Definitely worthwhile getting all of the previous and subsequent volumes IMO. One of the greatest Ellington bands, great selection of Ellingtonia/songs and good sound quality. Even the announcements and bond promos make for interesting listening. Thanks. I'll have to give them a try.
  5. And let's not forget Otis Blackwell.
  6. Damn, I thought I'd get to be the first to mention Chuck Berry. Oh, well. I wouldn't be surprised if someone's already mentioned Goffin/King too. How about--- Buddy Holly Lowman Pauling Argent/White (The Zombies) Brian Eno Sly Stone (and to Leiber/Stoller, Lennon/McCartney, Jagger/Richards, Ray Davies, Elvis Costello, Bacharach, and Becker/Fagen....and others.)
  7. Also, the Rhino "5 Royales" box... And the 4-disc Zombies box, "Zombie Heaven." And the JSP Jelly Roll Morton.
  8. Twelve is too goddamn young. The woman's a sicko.
  9. One of my all-time favorite photographers. At least we can't say he died too young. RIP
  10. Beauty Is A Rare Thing, Nuggets, the Smithsonian Ellington, and all those nice Time/Life Giants of Jazz boxes. And the Rhino complete Ray Charles on Atlantic, a perennial favorite.
  11. I thought it was basically everything other than the Polygram and WEA stables.
  12. Yes. I was going to suggest Idle Moments. It certainly has a sound, a personality, a mood all its own.
  13. I, for one, really like it a lot. But I happened to get it before getting the original, so that may have helped. I think it's a great album with a really warm sound.
  14. It's ear-bitingly sad.
  15. I hate littering and messiness too. What are you gonna do? I count it as a great day when I climb on the bus and DON'T find discarded newspapers all over the floor.
  16. A FIFTH Batman movie?? Oh dear God, NO!!!!
  17. --from Worlds Records e-mail How are the other volumes in this series? Are they worth getting as well?
  18. Against All Enemies, by Richard A. Clarke

    Blue Note SUCKS!!!!!

    I agree. Stupid AND ugly.
  20. Oh. I now see you got it already. Never mind. (But good move. You'll be glad you did.)
  21. Peter, if you like Sonny Criss at all then I must urge you in all honesty to GET THIS as soon as possible. I guarentee you won't be sorry. This is the release that got me into Criss and it's not to be missed. Go, man!
  22. Jeez! French chef Bernard Loiseau committed suicide last year after learning he might lose his third star in his very highly-rated restaurant in Burgundy. Hope Horace Silver does not lose sleep over a three-star AMG rating! Somehow I doubt it. I think it's the words "not essential" that raised some hackles around here...and the 3 stars, of course.
