  1. Yeah...kinda ugly, ain't it? Well, now that Ready For Freddie is a U.S. RVG, time to do the same for Here To Stay, Davis Cup, and Flight To Jordan! Right Blue Note? Er, EMI?
  2. I HAVE the related Mosaics, and I STILL couldn't stop myself from buying the Swingtets release! Terrific releases that are great to have in CD form---too bad they can't be kept in print ad infinitum.
  3. Once again, I wonder "Why wasn't that song a jukebox hit?"
  4. Hearty congrats!!!
  5. He's at least as big a genius as Irving Mills.
  6. I never trusted her. Here's the thing that gets me: She WAS a successful stockbrocker at one time. She knew better. When I saw the headline "Stewart's Show Taken Off the Air" for a second I thought they meant JON Stewart! Whew!! I'd hate to be deprived of The Daily Show.
  7. I'll say. I paid several times that much for it, and still thought it was a good deal...and it was! But 4 bucks---they must really want to get rid of it.
  8. I think Tony will write his memoirs and the book will become a huge bestseller. ...Then he'll get bumped off. Or not.
  9. Very saddening. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.
  10. Whassamatta? Ya got some kinda PROBLEM wid last season? HAH?? Well DO YA??
  11. I believe the episode you're talking about is "The Monsters Are Coming To Maple Street"---one of my favorites, and one that holds up well today.
  12. Heroin seems to go in and out of fashion, like skinny ties and wide lapels. I guess this is true of a lot of illegal drugs, but here's some scary news: A bag of heroin, the same kind that 20 or 30 years ago went for thirty dollars, now goes for four dollars. Not forty, that's FOUR dollars!!! So a kid can get hooked for less than the price of a movie or a paperback.
  13. When I was a kid, Spiderman was the obvious favorite. Later, Plastic Man. Best uniform: The Green Lantern.
  14. "To Serve Man"---This one blew my mind when I was a kid.
  15. I wonder of Hawkins was playing a tenor that the Professor made out of bamboo and vines.
  16. Well this is shitty news to wake up to.
  17. Count me as a fan also. Some of my favorite Shaw is on the above-pictured "Last Recordings" compilation, and a 2-CD followup called "MORE Last Recordings"---has a b&w cover where he looks like he just got his head shaved. (!!) The music is terrific though; I'm not near my collection, but I believe it includes Hank Jones and Tal Farlow. Just amazingly musical small-band stuff.
  18. Thanks for the warning about Cookin' the Books. I was thinking of getting it, but will now give it a miss.
  19. Right on! I grew up eating cinnamon poptarts and a few months ago I got two boxes in a row that were, not to put too fine a point on it, HORRIBLE. I have not tried one since. I'm glad someone else has noticed, because my tastebuds couldn't have matured THAT much (I still like any Drake's product, for instance).
  20. "San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds, New York Yankees stars Jason Giambi and Gary Sheffield and three other major-league baseball players received steroids from a Burlingame nutritional supplement lab, federal investigators were told." ---San Francisco Chronicle, Tuesday, March 2, 2004 I guess we can stop arguing about whether or not Bonds took steroids. It saddens me though...to think that sleepy little Burlingame is involved in this.
  21. Cool. Now, on to Europa!
  22. Found it!!! So far March, August, and November are standouts for me. Does anyone have the album My Man Benny, My Man Phil?
  23. Take a look at the third Godfather movie. If you dare.
  24. I thought it was kind of cool that The Fog of War won for best documentary. Errol Morris was way overdue for some "official" recognition. If only they could do without renditions of the best song nominations maybe they could get the running time under 3 hours. I don't know anybody who gives a damn about those songs.
