  1. I love Tina Brooks, but man, that IS craziness!
  2. OH yes!! Go for it!!! Ditto. And add the Wes Montgomery FULL HOUSE date on Riverside OJC to the list. You get that same foursome plus Johnny Griffin, and they're all in top form or better. It's GOOD! OH yes!! Go for it!!! More ditto! Ditto to the max!!!
  3. OH yes!! Go for it!!!
  4. 44 for me so far (I think). That's not counting West Coast Classic titles... After all, it's a different series. I've got 10 of those. (I'm also not counting titles that I later got in RVG form but never had in their Connoiseur incarnation.)
  5. I've got no 16 2/3 RPM records, but like you Jim I had a Chipmunks album that I used to play on my kiddie record player at various speeds. I was five and totally loved the record but then finally dropped and broke it. Just like a kid, eh?
  6. Yes, I got mine from comic book stores as well.
  7. First Joe Strummer, then John Ritter, now Robert Palmer. Apparently one's fifties are the 'deadly decade.' What the....?

Yet another vote for Into Somethin'! Personally, I like it more than Unity.
  9. I have these and they are great. Crumb also did a pack (or deck) of blues trading cards that look terrific, and a country music deck as well. Trade 'em with your friends, make up your own games! Endless fun!
  10. That is just so wrong, not to mention bizarre. There's a grocery store here that used to play real, non-Muzak, jazz at a low background level. It was nice. I don't think they still do though. Maybe they got complaints that the music wasn't mind-deadening enough.
  11. There's a review in the latest New Yorker ("Blues Clues")----unfortunately, the reviewer didn't get to watch the Clint Eastwood segment which looks the most promising to me.
  12. I scored a one, also the reading question. But I define any book I've read that I really liked a lot as a "classic."
  13. You mean, it's possible to have enough Blue Notes?
  14. Yeah, CJ, The Flip is more for Hank completists (like myself). Get Soul Station and Workout first. What a lineup of Conns, though. How many hours til release?
  15. I have five, all having got lots of play at my house. (Lately the Jazztet and the Ellis.) This was a great series----should have gotten better distribution and kept in print longer (MUCH longer)! Hate the gatefold/slipcase design though; I don't enjoy having to violently yank a disc from a too-tight sleeve. I've put all mine in slimline cases. I've looked for Out of the Storm, Swingin' On the Town, and The Swinger/Mr. Swing for some time without success. That's modern Verve for you.
  16. City Lights gets my vote, but there are so many good choices here that you can't lose. Release it all!!
  17. Music Inc, Benny Carter, Criss, Morgan, De Franco, Coltrane.
  18. Some interesting replies. JohnB---I know what you mean; over the years I must have made a million various rock, pop, or punk compilation tapes that mainly get played in the car. But sometimes a jazz soundtrack can be nice, on a very long drive, or a trip over the Bay Bridge (same thing). Vibes----good stuff!! I'll have to check out this MP3 technology someday, probably when it's about to become obsolete. Try throwing some Hank on there! The Mobley Mosaic sounds great on the highway!
  19. I think I have about 10. The cost is a prohibitive factor, to be sure.
  20. That cover ROCKS! I love how the title font fits in with the time and overall graphic. I wanna buy it!!
  21. Just wondering if anyone else out there likes to make jazz "mix" tapes for listening in the car. I like to make ones that reflect my current listening phases, but that are (hopefully) good enough for me to slap on a year or two in the future during a long drive. Just made a new one that includes lots of tracks from Hubbard's "Ready For Freddie" and "Here To Stay," a Tina Brooks, a Kenny Doreham, some "Mode For Joe" (naturally), some J. R. Monterose, and a lot of Walter Davis, Jr. How about you? B)
  22. Yes, I've long thought of Something Else as the next best thing to having another Miles Davis album.
  23. I've heard of the tomato juice remedy too. When I was growing up, that's what people used to swear by, anyway. Good luck!
  24. In fact, this was the first Mosaic box I went retail on. For some reason a lot of them have turned up used in local stores for very reasonable prices---I snagged one for about $50 early this year. The only detectable difference from my other Mosaics is that the box is a bit more scuffed. Lots of good music on this baby, needless to say.
