  1. Just rented disc 1 of season 1 of Mad Men. I hadn't seen the very first episode, and was curious about it. Turns out I HAD seen part of the second episode and most of the third. Nice to see them in their entirety, though.
  2. I think I'll play Blue Mitchell's Blue's Moods in your honor.
  3. Happy Birthday!!!!
  4. Yes (and better than you might think, although I prefer Hackett's more jazz-oriented music.) I actually toyed with the notion of getting the above Collectables CD, just so I could have those two albums in more convenient form. I eventually, years later, just ripped the songs from the Mosaic and burned them onto one disc, which, in fact, I'm listening to right now.
  5. http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/2fb0fbb0d...-w-fred-willard Funny stuff.
  6. Damnit, is that all?
  7. Found the Verve Elite album The Kid and the Brute for only 10 bucks. It's quite good, too! But now I have to go searching for another slimline case. One thing I hate about those Verve Elites is the dimwitted packaging.
  8. Both great, especially the latter.
  9. BTW, I don't remember ever seeing the Schifrin anywhere. They must have put out an extra small run of that one.
  10. A very good chunk of recommendations there.
  11. Actually, I used the "website" in my brain. Much faster.
  12. And not worry about cigarettes having any unhealthy aspects. Hey, if doctors use'em, they MUST be safe!
  13. Mine: The Third Man Children of Paradise The Maltese Falcon His Girl Friday Trouble In Paradise Bob le Flambeur Grand Illusion The Lady Eve Rules of the Game My Man Godfrey 2nd top ten: Touchez Pas au Grisbi Singin' In the Rain Top Hat The Seven Samurai Ikiru Army of Shadows The Thin Man Holiday Notorious The Lady Vanishes Strange...I would have thought that "Sherlock, Jr." or "Out of the Past," or "Chinatown" would have made it. Quite amazing, really.
  14. Hmmmm, I always thought the dude in the pink was Paul Desmond, no? Yes. I think Cyril was making a joke. Don't they look like twins? You can always tell Desmond by his receeding hairline and thinner face. Then there's Revolver.
  15. I always thought they had something to do with Kool cigarettes.
  16. For that reason I now love that man.
  17. Hey, man, it's EXCITING!!! (Not for me, of course, but for some people.)
  18. Did Mann pull that "revolving-camera" stunt? That has become the bane of my contemporary-movie existence.

    Rare Blue Notes

I didn't know that they put the extra material from "The Procrastinator" on "Sonic Boom"! I still have the Japanese CD of "Sonic Boom." Now I'll have to find the US reissue (grumble, grumble).... And that extra material is really, REEEEALLY good.....probably some of the best stuff Morgan ever did. (Just kidding.)

    Rare Blue Notes

I can't believe that damn thing is already out of print. Thank god I got one when it first came out. (The RVG, that is.)
  21. What do you mean? Just speaking in the mode of Harvey Kurtzman. Oh. Who that? Sorry. American cartoonist, (comics) artist and editor. Founding editor of the original MAD. Was associated with EC comics in the early 50's and edited Frontline Combat and Two-Fisted Tales, for my money their best titles and commonly acknowledged to be among the best war comics of all time. Also started several (sadly short-lived) later satirical comics magazines such as Trump, Humbug, and Help!.
  22. I did get a nice thank you note from Kieth Richards' heroin dealer once... It's little touches like that which really make all the difference.
  23. Hmmmm, I always thought the dude in the pink was Paul Desmond, no? Yes. I think Cyril was making a joke.
  24. The objectionable part of that particular passage is his characterization of MJ as "the greatest performer in any artistic field, ever," but to his larger point: We're all guilty of enabling MJ's excesses, whatever they may have been, because we bought his records? Do those of us who never paid more than fleeting attention to MJ get a pass? Yeah, I never bought a single album of his, so I guess that lets me off. By the same token, in my late teens I'm afraid I funded quite a bit of the Rolling Stones' excesses. Somehow I have yet to feel any guilt. But godawmighty the guy is wordy.
