The new one was sold as a remake because in the current environment the studio was more open to spending money that way than on a new film. More marketable. This is nothing new. The big Hollywood studios have found remakes to be a "safer" investment for at least the last 25 years.

Back in the mid-80's I first acquired the the complete Parker/Dial sessions, on vinyl, from a British label called "Spotlight." I still love those Spotlight-Dial LP's.

Yes it's very good and if you have difficulty tracking down the single cd it's available on this fairly recently re-issued 2-fer. This is the one I would love to get; Nobody Else But Me I've got that last one! And it's good! (I've got to warn you though that I don't have a Getz album that I dislike.)

It's probably been mentioned more than once already, but I want to put in a word here for the Stan Getz With Cal Tjader album, on Fantasy. "Ginza Samba" is alone worth the price of admission.

My British Invasion anthology came in yesterday. A very mixed bag, but there's some good stuff there.

Yeah, I also started out with the vinyl Monk set back in '84 or 85. Soon got the Tina Brooks as well, and I was off and running... 45 sets later, I'm thinking of slowing down. One of these days.
