  1. Nevertheless...not really my type.
  2. the sun also rises is one of my favorite books and i've read it quite a few times - strangely i never made through more than 50 pages of any of the others.... You're ahead of me; all I've read of Hemingway is short stories. Lucky...
  3. Quite right, but if you're in the mood for a downer then you could do a lot worse. What gets me is the TV adds give just the opposite impression. They show every second of footage in the film of people laughing, giving the 100% wrong idea that it's a high-energy, life-affirming, upbeat movie. A criminal misrepresentation. I hope anyone who saw the add also READ something about the film before seeing it.
  4. I'll wait for the terabyte i-pod.
  5. Well, I'm glad we straightened that out!
  6. No way I'm taking the quiz...I want to keep my illusions.
  7. ...And how many repertory cinemas? (If the answer is "None" then why move?)
  8. The word on this is not good. I'm giving it a miss.
  9. I wonder if she dreams of electric sheep.
  10. Clearly, you can't put much credence into lists like this, period. "Frankfurt, the town so nice, they named a foodstuff after it."
  11. I like the coast too, having grown up close to the Massachusetts coast. I'm not sure I'll like it when the sea level starts to seriously rise, but yeah, I can dig that sentiment.
  12. God's gonna get you for that, Walter... I too was a fan of Maude but never really checked out The Golden Girls. RIP
  13. Sydney is supposed to be wonderful city. The fact that Vienna, Zurich, and Geneva came in at the top is no big surprise though.
  14. Because it's listed as a narcotic in 7 states.
  15. Just don't let a pig, bird, or sick human sneeze on you. Come to think of it, that's a good policy at all times.
  16. I can't agree with you. I thought the Chieftan was a damned fine car! And such a fine name, too! I suppose I will as well, but nearly as much as I miss Plymouth. For years I drove a Plymouth Satellite (but not faster than the speed of light.)
  17. Yes, I'm following it. When the CDC declares a health emergency, I tend to take notice.
  18. Or not.
  19. Indeed, the Time Records trio album is very solid. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of Sonny Clark shouldn't hesitate to get it.
  20. I've got a ton of classical vinyl that I simply don't want to buy twice.
  21. I see you're a fan of Breaking Away. Good movie. A little windy, but not too cold here. Mid-50's.
  22. I happened to catch that too. It's amazing how they manage to keep up the quality of that show.
  23. You mean New Tet? I've got that. Pretty nice. There's a piece where he explicitly draws on Verdi, and that's pretty cool. I was lucky enough to see him touring in support of this CD. OK, THAT! I wanna hear that right now.
  24. Apparently they WILL come out with a new edition of KOB every few months til the end of time. (Or not.)
  25. The Exciters---Tell Him (Collectables) A rather unfairly overlooked girl group. The lead singer, Brenda Reid, has a huge voice and sings her ass off. Also, their version of "Do-Wah-Diddy" (which predates the Manfred Mann) is fantastic.
