  1. "Jazz Lips"????? Not a label name that I would choose, but, whatever.....
  2. I thought the only albums on this list that I didn't already have were Like Someone In Love and Mother Ship. Turns out I've got Mother Ship after all. Whatta ya know.
  3. Thank you, Allen. I didn't know Ace owned this stuff. Usage is a wonderful thing. Ace is a singular noun encompassing a plural; a bit similar to saying "a number (singular noun) of people have done such and such", rather than "has". Which formulaton would you use? I'd use "have" for the "number of people," and "has" for "Ace" (the company.) But I'd be a lot calmer about it, hopefully.
  4. I'm really tempted to buy this.
  5. This penchant to see faces stems from some strong face-recognition software that evolution equiped us with. It enables us to bend almost any random visual pattern into a "face."
  6. Winter. I remember Winter.
  7. Nice compilation! One that I've been playing for ages is The Stash Christmas Album: 16 Blues and Jazz Classics. It includes Louis Armstrong, Lightning Hopkins, Paul Whiteman, Fats Waller, Lionel Hampton, etc. The Phil Spector Christmas Album is of course a classic, as is A Charlie Brown Christmas. I've also got a James Brown Christmas album called "Santa's Got A Brand New Bag." And thanks to this board I got the Kenny Burrell one a couple of years ago.
  8. Happy to read this!! About time!
  9. I used to have this album. That's quite a hypnotic hairdo.
  10. Kinuta is suddenly one busy PMer!
  11. The Morgan/Shorter Vee-Jays.
  12. Hmm, I guess the expectations gap runs both ways then. Personally I see this band as more a logical extension of the Birth of the Cool band and less a "big band." Whatever it is, I totally love it. (In fact I took to playing it so much that I took the individual CD jewel-boxes out of the big box, and they've stayed there.)
  13. Back when I made a lot of tape cassette recordings, groove echo was key in getting some of my segues just right.
  14. Ah, yes, three of my favorite Contemporary albums.
  15. So we could have seen a clip of THAT in the background while Palin droned on and on in the foreground????
  16. That would involve spoilers and ruin it for those who haven't seen it. Suffice to say it's bleak, tragic and cleverly plotted. Mackey's comeuppance is not what we might have expected but an almost Shakepearean take on a man who loses everything, well almost everything. I found it a very satisfying end, sad, ironic and completely faithful to everything that had gone before. Damn. Feel free to PM me about this.
  17. Do I have to?
  18. That's the only way I've ever heard it pronounced.
  19. Yes, but you have to be patient. VERY cool, Van Basten! BTW, how many films did you recognize? I recognized enough to make me feel old, or like I watch too many movies. Or both.
  20. "Magnificent" you say? What happened?
  21. Happy Birthday! May it be full of film happiness (and the regular kind too.)
