  1. "Ray Charles Goes To Washington" Is that a hidden bonus track? Nice article
  2. Maybe so, but we got Buddy Guy. Accept no substitutes.
  3. Derek is far from a conventional slide player. His scale choices and phrasing have way more in common with a jazz horn player than your conventional blues guitarist. The guy regularly plays "coltrane changes" as a substitute over more static parts of conventional blues/rock songs! Regarding frontman persona or lack thereof...So What (pun intended). I'm more interested in the music. I've been listening to this guy for the last 10 years and I'm more than happy to follow his musical journey and watch him develop as a player. The guy is serious about his craft and could potentially be one of the greats in any number of musical genres. My 2 cents.
  4. Statesboro Blues/Sleepwalk/Statesboro Blues Medley A 16 yr. Old Derek Tears It Up
  5. Totally agree. Bought this one right when it came out and still spin it occasionally.
  6. Sounds like those two Hyena discs are right up my alley as well. Can't really go wrong based on your description and the "nice" CDU price.
  7. I couldn't tell you the number of times I've almost bought one of his releases, today being the latest case, but I still haven't pulled the trigger. Just wondering what you think of him?
  8. Modern Man is quite good. I really like Stand too.
  9. I kinda' figured as much. There is quite a bit to like about the scene as you obviously know. So who are you going to catch this year at Bonnaroo?
  10. I don't think it's quite that simple. "....too lazy to learn jazz" Are you implying that jazz is the only valid form for improvisation? Whether the jazz elistists (I'm not implying your part of that group BTW) of the world care to admit it or not; to some extent the jam band scene has kept jazz from sinking even further from out of the general public's awareness. At it's worst the scene is ponderous and self indulgent. At it's best it can be a real musical stepping stone for musicians and fans alike. Just my 2 cents.
  11. VPI machine using Record Research Lab solutions (Super Vinyl Wash & Super Deep Cleaner).
  12. I don't disagree with any of that. I guess it's just a matter of degree. For me, the quality of the playing overcomes those "problems" making it one hell of a good time record that also has quite a bit of depth musically.
  13. Rock-based (but open to many styles) and improvisationally driven pretty much sums it up. Or endless noodling... depending one's perspective, of course. Well there is that...
  14. Rock-based (but open to many styles) and improvisationally driven pretty much sums it up.
  15. Pretty nice! Refreshing to hear a rather sparse, simple (I mean that in the best possible way) version of All Blues. I kept turning around looking for the belly dancer to appear at any moment.
  16. From The Deep Blue Organ Trio Wesite... (see link above) Goin' To Town! 01/25/06 We're in post production, mixing and editing our new CD/DVD which we recorded live at the Green Mill in Chicago. We're getting more and more excited as it comes together. We think you're gonna like it. Keep checking in here for the official release date, but for now expect it sometime this spring. Press Kits On-Line- For an electronic press kit for the group, visit www.sonicbids.com/deepblue (see links on 'Audio' page) Let me be the first to react to this wonderful news with a resounding.... HELL YEAH!!!!!!
  17. I like him too. I'd really like to see him get through a song without exclaiming "whew" or "yeah" however that's a minor quibble. The guy has soul. I also like Gideon? Pretty nice R&B/Soul singer; a little more of a polished approach than Taylor. Apples and oranges really, both are very good. This is the first year I've consistently watched to show past the early stages. Maybe the most talented group in the shows history?
  18. It's only been out for 2 months!! I received a pop up message while browsing Miles titles at yourmusic.com yesterday that indicated a new release from Miles will be added soon. I will be receiving an email update when the mystery title is available. Anybody else get this message?
  19. Sounds like Ted Nugent bought that baby. Hey, you never know. It could be Uncle Ted. He's definitely got the $$$. That's what I'm saying!
  20. Would appreciate hearing yours thoughts on this set once you get a chance to listen to it. It's on my short list...
  21. Are there any tapes of Jerry playing with "New Riders Of The Purple Sage" circulating?
  22. Sounds like Ted Nugent bought that baby.
  23. It doesn't even have a truss rod! No need to mess with perfection.
  24. I hope that instrument gets played on a regular basis. Maybe some deep-pocketed recording studio owner bought it and intends to put it to good use with his clients. Or a collector in Japan.... (you know the rest of the story)
