  1. TIVo'd this last night and just watched it. Not good.
  2. Boy, you've really created quite the scenario....
  3. I like some of that "hippie pandering post modern crap" Nothing ventured nothing gained.
  4. General Rule of Thumb: If it sounds evil, it's Cosey.
  5. A few purchases today... Santana: Welcome (Remaster) Gabor Szabo: Spellbinder James Brown: Funk Power 1970: A Brand New Thing (Remaster) Santana/McLaughlin: Love, Devotion, Surrender (Remaster)
  6. LA Times Obit.
  7. Many years of guitar lessons. Interspersed with copious amounts of jamming and gigging in blues, rock, and some jazz contexts. I can read music and am a fairly good sight reader (especially for a guitar player ). Not much of a writer, although I will occasionally feel compelled to write out an original tune in lead sheet style. I still take lessons on a semi-regular basis. Moving forward, I'm seriously thinking about taking conga lessons since I have a beautiful set of drums sitting in my closet just collecting dust. I just need to find the time.
  8. Thanks everyone. I need to check some of that early material out.
  9. I think the last "new" Blue Note album I bought was Stefano di Battista's Parker's Mood. Which I think is quite good.
  10. The new "Music For Lovers" series pretty much says it all.
  11. Did Cal Tjader play drums? I saw him credited on a Brubeck album (Brubeck Octet) as the drummer. Is this a typo, or did he actually dabble on drums? Thanks in advance.
  12. Must have something to do with that god complex she's sporting.
  13. Just want to add Dan Wall. His work with Abercrombie is outstanding!
  14. Not minor in my book, but Chris Foreman should be better known.
  15. Lot's of Derek Here! Derek is a pretty interesting player. I would also encourage anyone at all interested, to check him out in the context of the Allman Brothers Band.
  16. Obviously, you have to observe the overall contour of the melody to assure you don't run out of room. That said, I find it very helpful to relate the melody to an appropriate chord shape, scale, series of scales, arpeggio(s), chromatic lick, or any combination thereof. This not only helps me find appropriate positions, but it has to extra added benefit of making memorization and transposition of the melody (if desired) relatively easy once I've worked the positions out in this manner. It's just a matter of "seeing" the the scale, chord, or arpeggio shapes, etc. in a different position on the fretboard. The other real key benefit of this approach is that you instantly have a road map for how to play over the changes. Maybe not the only way that you would want to approach the changes, but it's one way, you have in your back pocket that will keep you close to the melody, if that's what your looking to do. Not sure if I've been totally clear in explaning this; but I hope it helps.

I totally agree. Enigmatic Ocean, Cosmic Messenger, and Imaginary Voyage are really all top notch Ponty. Ponty had a knack for choosing sympathetic guitarists which really makes these albums stand out IMO.
  18. That's a really hard way to play F-6.
  19. Just heard "I'm In Love" on the radio today (which you never hear anymore). Now I know why.
  20. You absolutely killing me! I still need to buy the latest Bob Wills box.
  21. This one's now available....
  22. A lot of real good Lou on this. I play this a lot more than I ever thought I would. P.S. Regarding the Stitt, it's a must have IMO.
  23. "www.alldirect.com" typically has the Stockholm set for about $4 cheaper than cdUniverse. Unfortunately it's not in stock at the moment, but they do restock it on a regular basis. You can't go wrong either way, great music!
  24. The biggest find for me this year was Kevin O'Neil. His guitar work with Anthony Braxton was quite a pleasant surprise. Also really like his solo album "Sous Rature"
  25. These guys (M&K) have been making sub/satellite systems for the better part of 30 years. They have a very wide range of products including small wall-mount speakers.
