  1. Seeing I plan on picking up a bottle of JD today, I think a glass of it will go nicely with ACFD on Saturday night.
  2. why not Audiogon? A lot of dealers sell there as well. http://buy.audiogon.com/cgia/fsb.pl? I have bought everything 2nd hand except for my amp and one of my cartrdiges. I have had 0 problems.
  3. Leeway, The hell with the normal online retailers. Check out Audigon.com
  4. I was just guessing. I don't remember that e-mail. A Rockport was up for sale on Audiogon last year. Seller claimed he was dumping it to buy a BMW for his stripper girlfriend.
  5. I figured Mnytime would have a Rockport. VPI's are nice and all but they are kind of like the PC of turntables.
  6. re: professional customers upgrading computers aren't there some nice tax loopholes for this?
  7. I am using a Sony C555ES. I had a DVP-9000ES and liked it but it was finicky with cdr's. You had to get the right brand and burn at the right speed and even then I noticed some problems. They had a tendecy to skip, not like a stuck record but advance a second or so. The C555Es is pretty good in all respects but I use this player a lot more: Actually, the one I am using right now has an afromosia base which is kind of like reddish/brown in color. My black plinth is in storage.
  8. I just picked up a pile of RCA Living Stereo classical lp's. Lot's of choice stuff and most look like they only need a cleaning and will be VG++ to NM. A few are 1S/1S!!
  9. Hopefully some old farts that don't like getting up to flip the licorice pizzas will sell off a few in exchange for these new remasters.
  10. Jim, seeing that Rolling Stone cover once was enough!! I guess she's hot if you like 'em on the trashy side.
  11. I have the Gil on lp but it's a electric stereo issue. I need to give it a listen. I am sure it's in need of replacement. I wanna see the Space Book done next!!
  12. Maybe the Gil Evans. I have the following on OJC vinyl and they sound TERRIFIC. Dave Brubeck Quartet - Jazz at Oberlin Thelonious Monk/John Coltrane - Thelonious Monk & John Coltrane - John Coltrane - Lush Life
  13. he got it from here http://www.vjmuk.demon.co.uk quite easy to cut and paste............... I'd have to say my greatest finds were 8 Decca Wideband SXL classical lp's for .50 apiece. 5 of them often go in the neighborhood of $250. One of them is supposedly rare as hens teeth and a classical buff almost e-fainted when I told him what I paid for it.
  14. Reading stuff about the Seattle scene makes me wish I was back there. Year round quality straight ahead with healthy doses of improv/avant throughout the year and during the Earshot fest. Not to mention the closeness of the Vancouver festival.
  15. More! Farewell Tribute Concert Legendary Jazz Saxophonist Hadley Caliman SEATTLE, WA -- March 24, 2003-- Cornish College of the Arts is pleased to present legendary jazz saxophonist Hadley Caliman in a Farewell Tribute Concert on Saturday, April 12th at 8 pm in PONCHO Concert Hall. Caliman will retire from Cornish College of the Arts this spring after 20 years of dedicated service to jazz education in the North West. The concert celebrates Caliman's musical career and his long-term dedication to education. Caliman will be joined by Cornish College colleagues Dawn Clement, piano; Chuck Deardorf, bass; and D'Vonne Lewis, drums. The program will include jazz and rhythm & blues standards, as well as original works. Hadley Caliman began playing the saxophone at age 16. He was an early disciple of Dexter Gordon, and took lessons from Gordon as a teenager. Caliman was the youngest member in Roy Porter's seventeen piece band. Caliman has performed and recorded with such notable musicians as Santana, Freddy Hubbard, Earl Hines, Jon Hendricks, Julian Priester, Amos Milburn, Gerald Wilson, Don Ellis, Mongo Santamaria, Willie Bobo, Eddie Henderson, and Bobby Hutcherson. Caliman's long career includes more than 100 recording sessions, working with artists ranging from Charles Brown to The Grateful Dead. His four albums as a leader, recorded for Mainstream and Catalyst in the 70's, are collector's items. Notably, Caliman appeared as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center in a tribute to Dexter Gordon, sitting in Dexter Gordon's chair. Caliman has been on the faculty at Cornish College of the Arts since the 80's and performs regularly in Seattle. In addition to performing at numerous Northwest festivals and venues, Caliman also appears regularly at local clubs such as Tula's, Mona's, and Club Habana. source: http://www.cornish.edu/main.asp?pg=546&sid=22
  16. Found this pic on the net. Copyright is 2002.
  17. I caught Caliman in Seattle at Tula's in 1998 or 1999. And I think I have seen his gigs listed at their website in the past twp years or so.
  18. Does Celebration have the original backcover photo?
  19. which market buys most of the jazz cd's?
  20. re: improvements read my post above It has helped things out a lot. Much cleaner sound especially in the evening. I really wasn't concerned too much with the multiwave thang but wanted a unit that had a reliable fan. Also I picked it up for a lot less than retail. Buying a P300 would have required me to hold onto my UO so that was kind of a downer since I wanted to get some things off the floor as well. Buying a P600 was out of the question due to it's size. I also see now that Multiwave II is what the P500 contains. That link has much more info than the owners manual which is kind of a weak point IMO.
  21. That's what folks used to say when I told them what was under the hood of my '69 Camaro. Some people are just satisfied with the bare minumum I guess.
  22. Greg, the P500 has multiwave 3 and 4 and an Auto setting that automatically selects MW 2-4.
  23. who owns the Hindsight radio broadcasts? I have a Mildred Bailey with the Paul Baron Orchestra and a few of the Duke Ellington's.
  24. Congrats!! I am not sure if you know this already but Dennis Gonzalez is a teacher and he has a thread over at Jazz Corner under Ask The Musicians. He just mentioned a band of 7th and 8th graders playing A Love Supreme so he might be able to give you some advice since you mentioned middle school.
