  1. when was the last time there was a countdown thread? seems like a long time ago.... the good ole days?
  2. No, she didn't do the law thang. She looked into it a lot and felt it wasn't for her. So Politcal Science it is. That was her major and it helped her along with the good GRE scores. Plus she published some things in undergrad and apparently that isn't the case with a lot of candidates these days so that was a boost s well.
  3. I forgot her good scores meant she got a dean's scholarship so that increased her assistantship $$. I forget how much it is but it's over $12K. Not bad for New Orleans. Barely covering the rent in the NE.
  4. Nothing and an assitantship that pays so I guess you could say books are paid for as well. Where are you going? Have you looked at avg. GRE scores and all that? Megan was thinking of Tulane at first and really worked hard at practicing. However, they slashed a lot of programs and she is going to UNO. I may be going there as well so it's all for the best.
  5. Al, Megan practiced with a computer program. I forget how long she worked at it but she did really well. She's not paying a dime for anything.
  6. That's like buying coffee at Starbucks.
  7. Most I paid was $20 for the 3 lp set of De Leeuw playing the piano music of Erik Satie. I had bever seen it on lp and have never seen it since buying it. I have seen some sealed Phillips Netherlands go for over $10 on e-bay.
  8. FWIW, I dig the Big Nick on IN. No mysteries there.
  9. Downtown Music Gallery almost always has it. http://www.dtmgallery.com/Main/index.htm
  10. Are you trying to stir the pot? Do you really see every label that puts out SACD's converting to this?
  11. any Phillips red label form the Netherlands? These can very nice sounding and the pressings are quiet. And are often dirt cheap. Columbia's can sound like crap and are often noisy. Londons are the Blueback's not Westminster. Normally the Westminster Mono pressings are the most sought after, not the stereo. As far as the London label goes, look for the STS Treasury Series. The record label will be Orange. Lot's of killer deals and the sound is great. And always look for the original Decca pressings that will have a SXL prefix in the numbering system.
  12. speaking of Art Pepper, I really love Diane on So In Love.
  13. I haven't heard of him doing this and one of the people I talk to is about as heavy on the Hartford scene as it gets. But if this is the case, jamming with guests is far different than having a weekly or at least monthly gig in the area you call home.
  14. No. Looks good, though... Very good and Williams is one of those artists that doesn't do well on e-bay. I think I have seen this one for a few bucks.
  15. Was this recorded? I am bad with time these days, but I have seen McLean in the Hartford area in the past two years. He performed one of the opening concerts of the jazz series at the newest addition to Bushnell Hall in Hartford with his sextet, including son Rene, who I think came into the country specifically for the performance. Great show and Jackie played with the usual vigor. I also remember that the pianist that night was Marc Cary and he almost stole the show. That's what I thought. Twice since I moved here in 10/00. Not very often. I know of a few jazz fans in the area who find this confusing.
  16. I Remember Clifford for the most part but I really love Whisper Not a la Keith Jarrett and co. Have any other piano trios recorded it?
  17. Does anyone know why he doesn't choose to play the Hartford area? I know this is frustrating for folks that have lived here for a while.
  18. Kamuca's Concord sides pop up on lp frequently.
  19. I believe he is still the chair of the Hart School of Music in Hartford,CT. However, in my almost 3 years of living near Hartford, McLean has played maybe twice. I
  20. Would love to see this go. Would consider a trade for a new set as well. I also have a Japanese 2 cd set of VSOP Live Under the Sky for trade.
  21. Thanks! They are fools not to reissue the Cecil items right away IMO. They would sell like hot cakes.
