  1. I see the 2 lp Portraits set on e-bay from time to time and it doesn't seem to get any bids.
  2. anything out there with the umph of the Boulez Bartok SACD?
  3. green label in the 80's? and why only analog vinyl? If you can the digital lp for $3 or $4 , why spend 2-3x that for the cd?
  4. Here is one that has been reissued!!! But by AP. So In Love
  5. No bulletin board is an island. There is a wealth of information beyond that FAQ that can be found by doing searches of the Vinyl Asylum.
  6. check out the Vinyl Asylum at Audio Asylum. More than you can ever read. With links to many of those links that were posted.
  7. CD Street? That is one street I cringe at the thought of having to walk down.
  8. did the mosaic vice squad ever get to the bottom of this? Or did Car 54 break down?
  9. I think the much earlier OJC's would almost have to be analog. In fact, most of the Miles and Trane I have bought were done in 1983 and 1984. Why would you assume they are digital? There are the 70's twofers as well. The early green label Prestige sound pretty damn great. That said, I normally only buy the early OJC's. However, I have a few digital lp's like Art Pepper's More For Les and Art Farmer's BIOMY, Strayhorn trib and PhD. These were all bought for such little $$ that I could care less that they are digital. They sould fantastic.
  10. No problem. Just wish there were more shops like the one near me. Princeton Record Exchange is good too. If you don't mind the stickers they put on the covers.
  11. re: rare record dealers That's why I am trying to find out where this cat is. There are still some good used shops out there.
  12. Thanks!!
  13. Thanks, I figured someone released them. I just couldn't find one. But I see now that Tower lists them. I never think of looking there.
  14. where do you live? Are there a lot of used vinyl shops?
  15. Have these 1946 - 1947 radio broadcasts seen a complete reissue on cd? I see that AMG has Vol 1 listed as a cd but it appears to be OOP. I have the lp's but am just curious....
  16. The thing your turntable's tonearm cable is plugged into. Receiver, preamp, seperate phonostage, int. amp. Can make a world of difference since the majority of receivers for the past 20 years or so have been made for people w/o a turntable. The majority of companies still put them into their receivers but they know that most people don't own a turntable. Perfect place to cut costs.
  17. What type of phonostage are you using? Chances are you can use a high output moving coil cartrdige. Try and spen as much as possible on a good cartridge and make sure it is one that works well with whatever turntable/tonearm you buy. My recommendation would be a used LP 12. Especially if you can find one with an Ittok tonearm. For your price range, you should be able to find one. A cartridge would extend your budget though. But at $1000, you are buying a turntable that was bought for much more.
  18. banned? now who's freaking?
  19. One went for $1125 recently. And there is another for under $1200 When I was looking around b4 I bought the p500, they were always between $1300 and more often $1600. I know $100 - $175 less isn't much but once things start to drop at A-gon, new listings almost always follow.
  20. and is it me or are prices for lightly used P600's dropping like crazy?
  21. I agree that their sense of humor rings true. However, I don't think their experimentaion is wasted on trivial pursuits. But maybe since Scott Yanow agrees that there meanderous section I should consider changing my mind.
  22. conn, I have never had much luck promoting things at boards so e-bay seems the better route. Look at the ECM thread. I put a copy of Julian Priester's Love, Love up for sale at the BN BBS for $10 including shipping in the US. No buyers for a month. Sold it for $25 or so within a week on e-bay. I also remember having to jump up and down until soemone bought a copy of Mal Waldron's One Entrance, Many Exits.
  23. Most of Abdullah Ibrahim's music. The 70's and early 80's output almost always uplifts me. Especially the duets with Johnny Dyanni. Namhanje on Echoes From Africa is breathtaking.
  24. reserve is $15 pimpin
  25. Sounds like you know those sets!! I need to hunt down the other Dukes I don't own. I listened to some of the John Kirby this morning. Frankie Newton freaks apply within. I saw a copy of the Dizzy for $5 today!! I already own it(lucked out and found it and many others at Goodwill!!) but can pick it up if anyone is interested.
