  1. Just been waltzing around Stockport town centre with my earphones in listening to a few tracks from the Jackie Mclean set Was naffed off , now chilled out and back at work
  2. Mine was the Larry Young set back ....oooh ages ago .....had lots but only have ever sold the LP sets I had when I got rid of all my LPs...that got me many more mosaic sets on cd though so I was happy and replaced all that I had lost either box sets or on cds... I do regret not having the tina brooks booklet any more as well as the ike quebec john hardee booklet although I have all the music on Japanese cds etc I have just about all ( if not all ) of the Blue Note ones save the MOnk and Powell but had that stuff on cd anyway I will never forget the first set though ...( I know I have told this story elsewhere on the board before ( snore!) but I had a batch of old lps spare from blue note which I swapped for the larry young set ...it was AWESOME So much to enjoy over 6 discs from the sides with Grant Green and the later Young Material I could never sell that set for just that reason...got it from Decoy Records in Manchester UK no longer there sadly I also remember the excitment of the first delivery of a set...Art Blakey I think...big box..solid wrapping etc...decent customer service....nervous phone calls from the UK, trying to dodge paying huge import fees (and winning ) and the voice of the woman on the other end of the phone Anyway...ordering online is easier now and I have many many more sets but Larry Youngs set is still there,...a little more used looking maybe but still kickin my ass whenever I put it on!
  3. Ah I thought that was just me...I forgot the locking...yeh that happens when I leave it plugged and charging for ages...not usually though. I always get gizmo issues of some sort though and this one is relatively free of hassle....and I have really tanked it to death Only just bough ta smaller one for my cycle to work as it was a little big and I did not need 300 lps for a 45 min bike ride...well maybe I did but I chose a 1 gb matchbox to supplement
  4. Yeah and I thought Keith Jarrett had been doing backing vocals all along!
  5. Very few I guess I have gradually either hunted em down or got help with friends etc I guess the ones that I would like to hear that stick in are Jermemy Steig Wayfaring Stranger Bobby Hutcherson Inner Glow hmm The Three Sounds Vibrations erm I think that is about it. Mosaic took care of the early stuff, reissues did the rest and a few favours but there must be more....
  6. I have a creative Zen 30 gb jukebox thingy ......I hve to say it is the best gismo I have ever ever bought! There you go could not get clearer than that!
  7. Exactly! WTF for now again
  8. I must admit you do have a point about valuing what you have more. I get more jazz now than for a while and there is a cue. Mind you having an mp3 player to transport and listen makes a fair dent in the queue. However no matter which you keep or not it is still my old favourite blue note recordings that make me sit back and pat my feet and smile when my favourite solos or licks are played.....always have done always will In reality the offering/looking for section should give people the chance to let others know they have or need something without explicitly asking for cdrs. What people then do privately is up to them. There is though something also nice about the ones that still elude you Mine for instance well that would be hypocritical here after what I wrote!
  9. Yeh I had that on the other day when cleaning around the house. That and that certain feeling....he really does is for me as an orgainst along with Larry Young Which reminds I have a long not heard copy of Soul Connection to go and search out...
  10. Erm girls don't have all of them , is that why they get grumpy?
  11. Well.........okay, but can we find something else to freak out about while we wait? ← Well in that case can we discuss how somebody can locate a nice recording of Inner Glow by Bobby Hutcherson for me
  12. I have a 30 gb Creative Jukebox which I have to say has been the most pleasant gadget I have ever bought. Where else but in the shed , on the toilet, in the car, on my bike, on the train,on ...well you get the picture can I listen to a choice of 300+ lps...its great. The reduction in quality depends on the sampling rate in my opinion but its really really great! Best thing, since the last best thing!
  13. I remember seeing alot as a teenager before I had a vcr. I really would like to see more come out if sources can be found especially the live tv shows instead of rehashed tv biogs with all the usual stereotypes/rehashed stories. One that springs to mind was a programme I saw about Art Blakey years ago at around 87-88 in the uk ....it was really interesting and featured him doing some african stuff if my memory serves me right. (which it frequently does not) I picked up a nice one from a friend which many of you will have which featured charles mingus in black and white ( i think dolphy was on it) ...got it on a cd rom as a pressie...not sure if it is from a dvd or not Andy
  14. Worth it just to listen to Midnight Sun all over again in my view. I had most of the cds but flogged them for the box set as it was a real treat Do not hesitate BUY BUY er bye!
  15. Yeah, but the colour is all wrong! ← ← I think we may have a arguement with the knitters on this http://www.personalthreads.com/newsite/detail.cfm?ID=12235 Item Name: Kureyon 148 Brown Fuschia Rust
  16. I believe it has to be A night in Tunisia by Art Blakey etc on Blue Note This does it for me ...every time....sometimes so much ...I stick it back on again and guess the ending! The other one was a duo Art did with Paul Chambers...it was on a compilation years ago and then they stuck it on a lost session I ve'got my love to keep me warm with Art Blakey and Paul Chambers......sublime and after you have heard all of them Plaza de Toros by Larry Young or Jimmy Smith...title track from Open House again on Blue Note Last ...I promise Keith Jarrett Koln Concert on ECM bye
  17. From: Melbourne via Wellington, Gisborne, London, Dunedin, Jupiter, New Orleans Give it a year and a half. ← I must admit I never bother with air mail from Mosaic to the UK...I order it and get it surface and it is there within a fortnight. The one time I had a pressie and had that sent air mail...yes you guessed it...It took a a fortnight so I now do not bother and I am sure the fish never get to see it! Always arrives in perfect nick too Andy
  18. I had the same scenario although I was missing one if I remember ..( cannot remember now....may have been Up an down) but the box set was really nice and worth getting. I got it at the start as I knew there would be a time when it was either oop or at a time when I was less 'flush' with cash Sold the rest via ebay and it paid for the set and another nearly. However if it just the booklet you seek then I am sure someone will scan in the booklet for you to read Andy
  19. ← Now that does annoy me One of the boens with the seclts for me was the shipping was a bit steep for the box sets as they are less to post that the old sets Not impressed with that Did not mind the price for big sets but for these...bit naughty really
  20. Thats why that Lost Sessions cd was soooooooo nice when it came out. A various artists single cd of other rare tracks would be lovely if not to whet the appetite for future releases.....yes I know it aint cheap ......eh I know too that they would not sell many but hey...it was worth mentioning. They could pilot a download service with that kind of thing...just imagine..Grant Green cd with a download possibility on unreleased stuff...no risk, little cost etc Then they could judge what was gonna sell or not and take it forward. It ain't going to be too often we get the Andrew Hill type of luxury so this must be a way forward. Pleeease
  21. I guess I have been lucky that over time I have been able to fill in the gaps from the first issued that I really wanted usually with help from people on this board. Now I do not bother trying to get them on ebay but make sure I get them first time around ( even the selects - if I do not have them on cd) I know that if I do not then in 3 years time I will be scrapping around on ebay for em. Mind you there has not been a proper mosaic big box that I have wanted since the Stanley Turrentine...they all seem to come out now as selects which I guess is okay However I have tended to concentrate only on those mosaics that have been blue note related save the vee jays which were stunners! I think you will have to try to get a matey to get a copy for you til the prices come down on ebay By the way with reference to the first thread re the curtis fuller...it is an awesome set! Andy
  22. Yeh I have all of these and they are all very good. The Prestige ones I have commented on elsewhere and are worth a listen although Soul People is a little different from the rest. The imports are pricy but when I bought them I had never had the lps as they were real hard to find then so it was worth it for me at the time as Ihad a littel extra jazz cd cash from selling lps. If you can find cheaper copies then try Or see if you can score a few burns til they get cheaper
  23. This is now one of the last few I would love to hear on Blue Note ( I am down to counting on fingers all those left.......this and one or two Jack Mcduff and jimmy mcgriffs as well as the three sounds vibrations and jeremy steig s wayfaring stranger and the kenny burrell freedom lp SO there is my challenge.......any body else got wind of this coming or even any of the others as the last few are so annoying
