Strange year this year. Been kind of lucky picking up secondhand mosaics and so this year i the first year since the Art Blakey set came out that I have not bought/been bought a mosaic set for Christmas. However I have picked up a ton in between Strange though all the same. Mind you I am waiting for the Andrew Hill set which will make it seem like Christmas all over again Shame it ain't in a decent Mosaic box but then at least it is coming out and not stuck away in the vaults Did pick up the Tal Farlow set this year earlier on which was a nice surprise and the Chico Hamilton which was also different. Will look to get hold of the Art Farmer too when my millions have been counted. Ok when I have saved enough! Andy

I am with you guys on this and have been over the last 10 years knocking off large numbers of the OJC rpestige and riverside catalogue with any spare cash. However this year I managed to get into the whole emusic downlaod thing and have shifted up a gear or two ..........got some real scorchers too...........not the same as having the cd but it is legal ( well it makes a change B-) ) and you get the large catalogue However my all time favs and never to be missed are the Roy Haynes, Booker Ervins, Walt Dickerson, Benny Golsons Charles Macpherson Email me for more details or for trading possibilities as I have some spares Andy

and they are due out on my birthday too! What more excuse could I need

Now how about that? These two are some real nice finds for an old lp collector as I used to have em but sold them too when the LP clearout happened so they will be more than welcome visitors back in my house I can tell you. Maybe not the best of Blue Note but they were nice all the same.......any idea where we can get them over here in 'yurp' ? Andy

Cannot wait if the Hill is coming out early. Really looking forward to this I must say again and again. However the 3 sounds will be interesting....got all their early stuff but missing Vibrations and the really obscure string stuff. Andy

I used to have the Bruyn...thingie and then settled with the Ruppli work but wass looking forward to this. I downloaded the demo and quite frankly I was not that impressed iwth it....really not what I expected ...sorry if that is not helpful. I just guessed that the work would be more user friendly but it was not for me anyway. Andy

Art Blakey 3/8/59 Unreleased Blue Note Sess
andybleaden replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Discography
well...erm ....don't get that last post. anyway I was nearly shocked to find that there was unreleased stuff about ....would have loved the Grant Green at Watts Club mozambique! but would settle out of principle for a listen to the Art Blakey...I did have everything ...until now. Now I am sulking I realise now what a sad collector I am .....no matter what the state of the recordings they would be worth a listen I guess becasue of who when and where especially for any banter about during intermissions. As for who has them or not...well they are lucky ...I mananged to get lucky with the help of friends here with some lp burns and that was great enough but this...hmmmm now this is devious and tricky. That I like! -

I always feel as if I need to think of myself in these circumstances but I will foregoe this response for the benefit of others yet again. All those naughty people who have cdrs or tapes of illicit sessions may wish to send them to me for complete distruction using my powerful cleansing programme. I will of course remove any material which maybe considered illegal and make the whole process anonymous so that you never again have to fear the doorbell ringign and the arrival of the Blue Note police. Please send with small fee to cover any new costs associated ( cd storage, more shelves etc) to Andy Bleaden 61 Pla...... etc etc -
do you think he would have been on celeb stars in their eyes? or even I am a celeb get me out of here?
-
Send him to Liverpool for some instant justice!
-
Actually in all seriousness. This happened to me as a seller years ago when clearing out some cds...sent wrong cds to two people who were kind enough to swap! I of course rewarded them with a high reward I am impressed at your response and waht an example to us all
-
I'm not sure the buyers would appreciate your playing their vinyl before sending it on... He would of course be copying not playing Perhaps if he offered to 'test' the lps for the rightful buyer!

With reference to our Free Mosaic service please note that we always store your mosaic boxes (untidily also) under the table in my shed next to the lawn mower to guarentee the right levels of humidity to ensure small growths of mould or other 'matter'. There will be an additional charge if you want them left on the top of the shed table for full sun lightening effect ( due to the inclement weather and removal of cider barrels)

Maybe Nero has a funditon that takes out the groans and moaning when it spots them coming.....you know just at that point that you are getting into the track

Well I have to say a big thanks for the help and the information you have provided for me here. I must say it has helped me a great deal to understand the issues both on this post and the one about cdrs over ....there>>> It is clear to me that there are certain things now I must do to my cd ex programme and test it a little more. Many thanks again matey for your help and advice on this. This is once again a good example of what the board is good for. By the way I have just sent you an email too! BTW 2 Just gotta shout it out for the latest track I have got a hold of which is the Randy Weston Little Niles set from the Mosaic Select

Hey we are stretching across two posts here! Get what you mean. Is this even at 192 k/256k ?
-
Hmmmmm. Interesting info from all three there, thanks What I can never get my head around even with the amount of music that I have is this: 1 If I rip a cd track at 256 k for the pc do I need to click the VBR rate as well? Ie are they seperate? 2 What is then the difference between original cds and these when these mp3 are reconverted ( albeit from a high rate cd) ? 3 What if any difference is there in this 20 K bit remasters and the old japanese 88hz remasters.....how does this relate to the mp3 stuff? 4 Last one , honest ! If I use the default vbr ( say with min rate set at 256, does this go above 256 when needed and does it add lots of memory or is it offset with the swings and roundabout s of less demanding parts? ie are the minimal sounds done at say 192 or what ever? answers on a post card and the winners will recieve a special mp3 track! B)

I think the issue is also on the mp3 thread as well about sampling rates. I am still convinced about mass sampling rates ie 320k ish but I guess it must be better. The similarity you get over here with Digital Radio with digital signals either being perfectly clear or not at all . The sound quantity may be clear but the quality depends upon the signal sent out the other end ie the smapling rate! BBC Radio 3 used stick out gorgeous rich signals on FM which my digital radio cannot compete with but it does get rid of hiss ( well sometimes not but I have it on an FM aeriel . The signal is strong but not of good quality compared with FM so it is perfect reproduction of what they sent out ie something at 88k not 156 or whatever they use. They of course reduce the signal in roder to be able to squeeze other channels on With wav files stroed on a pc I cannot say whether blowing them back up will increase the quality or jsut make it safer? I have had skips with mp3 and wav files occasionally that are more to do with my pc than the source. I listen on a nice Arcam stereo with nice speakers and cannot tell the difference -honest ! The mp3 ( recorded at 192k or above blown back up sound just the same as when I have burnt wav files Even at 128 k I have to struggle to hear the difference
