  1. With reference to our Free Mosaic service please note that we always store your mosaic boxes (untidily also) under the table in my shed next to the lawn mower to guarentee the right levels of humidity to ensure small growths of mould or other 'matter'. There will be an additional charge if you want them left on the top of the shed table for full sun lightening effect ( due to the inclement weather and removal of cider barrels)

  3. I have had a few minidiscs for years and think they are great and were sooooo much better than discmans for skipping etc Saying that I am getting close to buying an mp3 player for the ease of transfer etc but will keep one of my minidiscs I am sure
  4. re John Surman His great grandmaiden name before becoming proper Cornish and adopting Withwhychle was Miss Saxopone - relative of Adolphus
  5. Maybe Nero has a funditon that takes out the groans and moaning when it spots them coming.....you know just at that point that you are getting into the track
  6. I hope that they never ever ever release this set ............................................................................................................................. .that is until I finally get off my fatarse and sell my exceptional quality japanese imports at huge prices on ebay
  7. I think that they (mosaics) are dangerous and un american All copies should be sent to me for resel...er processing immediately for the safety of American people.
  8. Well I have to say a big thanks for the help and the information you have provided for me here. I must say it has helped me a great deal to understand the issues both on this post and the one about cdrs over ....there>>> It is clear to me that there are certain things now I must do to my cd ex programme and test it a little more. Many thanks again matey for your help and advice on this. This is once again a good example of what the board is good for. By the way I have just sent you an email too! BTW 2 Just gotta shout it out for the latest track I have got a hold of which is the Randy Weston Little Niles set from the Mosaic Select
  9. Hey we are stretching across two posts here! Get what you mean. Is this even at 192 k/256k ?
  10. Hmmmmm. Interesting info from all three there, thanks What I can never get my head around even with the amount of music that I have is this: 1 If I rip a cd track at 256 k for the pc do I need to click the VBR rate as well? Ie are they seperate? 2 What is then the difference between original cds and these when these mp3 are reconverted ( albeit from a high rate cd) ? 3 What if any difference is there in this 20 K bit remasters and the old japanese 88hz remasters.....how does this relate to the mp3 stuff? 4 Last one , honest ! If I use the default vbr ( say with min rate set at 256, does this go above 256 when needed and does it add lots of memory or is it offset with the swings and roundabout s of less demanding parts? ie are the minimal sounds done at say 192 or what ever? answers on a post card and the winners will recieve a special mp3 track! B)
  11. I think the issue is also on the mp3 thread as well about sampling rates. I am still convinced about mass sampling rates ie 320k ish but I guess it must be better. The similarity you get over here with Digital Radio with digital signals either being perfectly clear or not at all . The sound quantity may be clear but the quality depends upon the signal sent out the other end ie the smapling rate! BBC Radio 3 used stick out gorgeous rich signals on FM which my digital radio cannot compete with but it does get rid of hiss ( well sometimes not but I have it on an FM aeriel . The signal is strong but not of good quality compared with FM so it is perfect reproduction of what they sent out ie something at 88k not 156 or whatever they use. They of course reduce the signal in roder to be able to squeeze other channels on With wav files stroed on a pc I cannot say whether blowing them back up will increase the quality or jsut make it safer? I have had skips with mp3 and wav files occasionally that are more to do with my pc than the source. I listen on a nice Arcam stereo with nice speakers and cannot tell the difference -honest ! The mp3 ( recorded at 192k or above blown back up sound just the same as when I have burnt wav files Even at 128 k I have to struggle to hear the difference
  12. Yes , send me fifty million squid and I will send you a cassette player
  13. I just tried that last night. Does that make it sound better Bill or use less space? I never got round to understading the reason for it? Any light shined here in would suffice . The other thing was which vbr to use as there are many!
  14. Kind of reminds me of when I was offered a jazz collection to buy by an old wifey whose ex husband had cleared off and left a pile of old records in the shed. I went on the phone rang her up ...what were they ....thad jones ....lee morgan They had mushrooms growing on sleeve and record They had been put in a cardboard box which had had food, and water spilled in it They were all warped and had been played with a large crochet needle I gave her a hend to clean out her shed and take everything to the tip for her I even helped her sweep the shed and took her to the shops to buy some plastioc boxes for the shed too! Good deeds expelled the desire to burn the shed /house down and I went home and cried ....they were very old and very collectable but I made up a good deal a few weeks later and cleaned up on some old prestige organ dates B) The cd bronzing thing I have not found an issue with. I do suspect mercenary forces are behind this coming up again across the web in various spooky stories! Could it be the dark side Master Yoda? They have done it before under another scheme sneeky buggers the music industry . I will stick my old and rare tocj in a moldy room for tenm years and test them!
  15. You might have missed the last cymble ride and the organ solo I suppose if it is all 1s and 0s then it does do it exactly. However sometime s I get poor copies or skips .
  16. I have been messing around with recording rates for mp3 for a few weeks now and found noticable difference with the higher recording rates ie between a cd ripped at 128k and one at 256K and even tried one at 320k However most of the cds I rip are for use on other cds (walkmans etc! B) ) SO I never notice the difference there. I also also heard the itunes AAC stuff and that sounds cool too mpeg 4 or something like that. Have others messed around with this ?? mind you it is an effing pain in the arse when you cannot remember which tracks are which when you forget to label them.........grrr! and want to do a compilation. What programme do people use? I have been using cdex which is very useful too.
  17. I watched and enjoyed the BBC1 programme although tiredness meant I fell asleep right at the end and thought they were linking a love supreme to football....then I twigged I had been asleep. Do not watch too much tv and it tends to make me very sleepy Never mind , it was very good. Would also like to catch up with the BBC4 thing as we do not get that where I live ( freeview) in the uk Any one handy with a copy to borrow steal etc? Ps made up for the sleep with a marathon tranathon on a journey to Pembroke which was very worthwhile as I travelled alone with noone to winge about too much jazz ...for a change!

  19. I remember similar nasty japes at college We had a guy who loved to show off his stereo and would always swing his door open in a flamboyant manner. Even when we put a big plastic bin full of fag ash and water up against it propped just enough that the door stopped it falling over.....unless it was opened in a flambouyant manner!!!!! B) AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Swoosh etc He deserved it! I got over the guilt in a ono second ( an 'ono' second is the time period remember that it takes for you to confirm a file deletion and then realise it was not to be deleted! The second nasty but better was when we filled a condom to capacity ( its gets very big really) Filled it full of lots of water and rolled it out of a top story block flats stairway window. We yelled about two seconds before it hit the person below who looked up and open mouth and nearly drowned as all the water disapeared . The victim had been braggin about how he could not get condoms to fit him and so we shown him just how much you could fit in a condom......many gallons! Less of a water balloon more of a space hopper! Look ouuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuut! Splish
  20. Nasty no 1 A friend , who reads this occcassionally ( so will remain nameless ) told me this of a post office worker who lived with an obsessive cleaner....very obsessive cleaner who clean around him, wiped underneath his still warm coffee cup etc.... One very sad day he had decided that he was to take action and flicked peanut butter ( the crunchy variety) all over the toilet and then proceeded to remonstrate with his parnter about the disugusting state of the toilet, how could sheleave it so etc etc... Her response was disbelief......I do not know what it is ....only cleaned it earlier this afternoon...um....do't know.... He stroked his finger around the toilet seat and sniffed and then tasted before offering saying...I will tell you what it is.....she had long since screamed and run out of the house.... They do not live together anymore needless to say Nastly number 2 Naughty man in Bristol who was fed up of is paranoid wife who was ( no real offense here ) big into the god stuff in an aggressive and tortuous manner especially towards him as he most definelty was not. SHe was very concerned about his behaviour and antics He being away from home for long period had the sign of the devil (666) tatooed on his head at the back not unlike the man in Damien ( that is where the idea came from!) whilst he was away and took her with him when he returned hoem just to have a trim ( in the days when flattops were the thing) His barber only got about half done when off came the hair that covered the offending item and out ran the rathered scared lookig woman who proceeded to scream all the way down the arcade Mean , yes Nasty , Yes Good fun, Yes!
  21. I can thoroghly recommend this release as the other poster was right..........it will not get better as they got what are supposed to be the best sources. I had this set ( still have actually) and searched high and low for the mosaic set at a reasonable price. Thanks to a very kind fellow board member I can now listen to them which has been great I love Honly Tonk Train Blues (even got it as a ringtone ) and even the Harpsichord sides which when I first heard them years ago now, they captivated me completely for their unique sound. I find it hard to chose between the two of them for talent and enjoy both Ammons and Lewis equally. There is just more of Blue Note's Lewis work that it is all. There are quite a few copies of the first day around but if people are struggling......give me a buzz
  22. For all non football fans. Copious amounts of strong cider and cheap bombay mix will be available in my back garden and I thought we could get my stereo out and instead of listening to football we could treat my neighbourhood to a whole evening of John Coltrane's Live at the Village Vanguard at full volume. I thought just when the local side are about to score I could up the power amp and blow the street fuse I was asked by a neighbour who looked very worried I must say , if I knew that England were on.............yes and were 1-0 up.............No................Its on now...........Yes ...........His face was like this . .....then he heard some kerfuffle and left me to be ticketty boo and alone . It was strange how everyone bought their TVs outside..... Anyway, just bring some chairs and we should have a ball.......recreate the Vanguard in the Peak District UK, next time England are on....all welcome! Maybe a glass or two might be in order if it gets a bit busy! After rall it is a box set! or rather
  23. I cannot guarentee that all of my brain cells will be stood in a line for that to happen! Sorry! Village Idiot Competition coming up soon and I have been too busy concentrating on that as I am looking to win back the title I will do my best to sort out this Wednesday and if not I will off course edit my post to show next weeks date! Thanks for the heads up
