Noj's Shameless Self-Promotion
connoisseur series500 replied to Noj's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Man, I saw only the first paintings. Missed all the good stuff on page 2. Awesome stuff! Wouldn't be surprised if these go for big bucks down the road. Sure hope the second Organissimo cd uses Noj's artwork. Wow!! I like all three Organissimo suggestions, but for some reason, I prefer the last of the three showing the hand on the keyboard. Conveys a sense of gravitas. Really like the spare yet dynamic picture of the hummingbird. Excellent! -
Jack Johnson

Excellent article, Ghost! I've read Joyce Carol Oates before. I think she wrote a book called, "On Boxing," or something similar. She's America's greatest boxing writer. Her rather demeaning comments about Ali are slightly puzzling; but Jack Johnson was something else! -

I wouldn't mind hearing of the "bad ones" as well. Others have posted the deficiencies of Jackie Mclean, "Demon's Dance" and Jack Wilson, "Easterly Winds," but both sound fine to me. Most of them are huge improvements over the old masterings.

I'm a fan of both domestic RVGs and JRVgs; in fact, I upgrade whenever possible to these formats. Can't say I'm crazy about the cardboard covers. It's hard to slip those cds into those soft plastic inner sleeves while driving 70 mph on the highway...

Actually, after extensive research and experimentation, I have discovered that if you place the + speaker wire into your left pocket and then insert the - wire into your mouth, the sound appears to come across in a more lively fashion... I would have published this discovery earlier but feared the likely reaction from the said pugnacious poster.... -_-

Ohio? which is also a vote against 7/4 and his post abuse...

Yes, but how well do you know everyone? Don't we all have trouble with a few people on our lists every year? Why add someone who is as likely as not you'll know less about than your average office mate, when you take jazz away? And if we're shooting for a $15 or $20 maximum, books won't exactly be easy to fit into that budget, unless its a paperback or found at a used book store. used will do. I don't know, Dan. We'll have to think this over as far as what would be best. I just don't think cds would be good as it would be just like swapping cds around. Gift certificates aren't really good for this sort of thing. I just think it would be fun to give another boardmember something that I personally enjoy; it would allow us the chance to express ourselves in another way besides our shared love for jazz.

While out shopping, you might want to check out some stores that sell European goods. Seems like they'll be a surplus of oblong balloons dumped on the market soon... -

Jack Johnson
connoisseur series500 replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Haven't read the article posted by Ghost yet, but Jack Johnson was a very interesting guy. He brought out some of the ugliness of this country. The nation hated him and looked ugly in the process. He was a great fighter, but he was also a great character. Like Muhammed Ali, he transcended the sport. I look forward to the documentary. I'll probably read the book as well. -
I'm intrigued with the idea; however, I don't believe cds or gift certificates are appropriate. The gifts should have nothing to do with Jazz. It would be more creative that way. Books should be allowable.

Can we vote again on postcounts? I want to vote against them twice!

The NFL Season

I dunno. I think the Steelers will beat the Eagles today. I don't much care for the Steelers either, but they're at home and fired up after last week's big win. Which Detroit team will we see today? Sportsmedia quotes Jeff Garcia as saying that he's starting to get comfortable with the Browns' offense. We'll see. -

I just prefer reading to watching television. It's the difference between depth and surface fascination. I think there are some terrific TV programs on, but I just prefer putting some jazz on and picking up a book, newspaper, or magazine. -

Would some posts in the what are you listening to right now thread be sufficient to be allowed to sell or trade stuff? In that case you wouldn't be a newbie anymore, provided that you'd posted at least 10 times Wich makes the difference between newbie and non-newbie almost non-existent. Edit: BBCode Kidding aside, I was talking about newbies posting solely in the "Offering and Looking for" forum. I should have said "passers-by" instead of "newbies" in my previous posts; that explains my opinion more clearly - I hope. Good clarification, Hans. -
I think it has to do with stress and happiness as well. When I'm really stressed about my job and feeling very unhappy, the music doesn't sound quite as good. There's got to be a certain amount of inner tranquility and freshness as well. You bring yourself to your activities and hobbies.
