  1. Whatever your decision may be, plan for the long run. So if you are currently scared and tempted to put your $ into money market funds, it would hurt you in the long run. My investments have been hurt, like everyone elses with the stock market downturn, but I asked myself where I wanted to be long run, and the only answer was "stocks." If that's the case, then you put your 401k there, and if it's already there, you leave it there. The problem with temporary safety choices such as money markets is that you never know when to reenter the stock market. You may miss some downturn while you are in your safe haven, but you'll also miss a good amount of upside while hesitating over a reentry point. The commercial was talking about annuties, perhaps? They have their advantages, but they are very costly. Be careful and read up on everything first before going into one of those.
  2. Sorry to hear that Chris has left for good. Hope he reconsiders. I'll always support the O-board. Jim has been more than fair throughout the years. No need to take sides on this one. Let's all just forgive and forget.
  3. I'm really sorry to read about this, Van B. It sounds as if your Mom was a remarkable woman. They teach us in school that when men go to the hospital complaining of chest pain, EKG's are immediately applied. When women enter the hospital for similar complaints, they think it is indigestion or something. Heart disease is a big killer of women. I tell you what though. As I get older, I really get to appreciate the remarkable powers of women. They are very much the stronger sex. They outwork men; they can handle life's reverses better. They seem to endure. They are more adaptable. Your mother shows all this in spades. I tell you what...you are a lucky man to have such a mother. You'll recover eventually, but I know it will likely take some time. Hang in there, bro.
  4. I refuse to read any threads unless the subject is ME!
  5. I'm cool with having economics articles in the section. I likely wouldn't have read them otherwise, as I rarely look at the Politics section.
  6. I was just reading this online. Sad, sad, sad.
  7. We heard them there once. Saw Organissimo twice over there, which represented the only two times I had been there. Nice place. Sorry to hear the news, and I hope they can somehow survive. It's a bit of a haul from my place.
  8. It's humbling to know that these guys could play us blindfold and kick our asses! They are that good.
  9. Which one? - if I might inquire. Cheers! I bet it wasn't a burn.
  10. Happy Birthday, Tom!! Join us again on live chat one of these days!
  11. Interesting stuff at this year's Melody Amber. Kramnik currently in the lead.
  12. Here's a knowledgeable poster: Then theres Adalius Thomas, Mayo, and probably one of Cushing, Sintim, or Rey Rey to block. This is all if you can get past Seymour, Wilfork, and Warren. Lol @ people who don't think Belichick won't leave this game as a god... Similar: Peppers, Mayo, Maualuga, Thomas - - Seymour, Wilfork, Warren Friggin nasty! Best front 7 in the NFL, nobody even on the same page. No one knows your team better than a bitter division rival. Yikes. Just saw this. Looks like the Pats are about to get their Randy Moss on Defense now. Not bad for 2nd round picks. Let's see, #34 overall for Julius Peppers, #6 for Vernon Gholston. Arrrgghhh! 13. Here's another: Yeah but we have Verny Gholston so don't worry about it. and another: how is it that the pats always get franchise level talent for a sack of potatoes? If a first round pick isn't involved, somebody should investigate these deals for collusion and conspiracy... (I can answer that one: when you have the most successful football franchise of the decade, it's easy to attract players.) Here's a good one: Don't worry Jets fans. The Patriots may about to be getting a top 10 pass rusher still in the prime of his career but we added Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard... wait a minute, we're f*cked. 14. OK, it's only in the "strong rumours" stage, but NFL sources say that the Patriots are about to acquire Julius Peppers in exchange for the second round pick they received from KC for Matt Cassel and Mike Vrabel. I would personally prefer that they go after Jason Taylor instead, who would be a cheaper option, and who they are very familiar with, and who is a good friend of Tom Brady's but...Peppers is a monster! They would then convert him to OLB in the Patriot's 3-4 scheme. Pats have already experienced a very successful offseason with the signings of TE Chris Baker, CBs Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs, RB Fred Taylor and WR Joey Galloway. In addition, they are sitting on four draft picks in the first two rounds along with two 3rd rounders (one likely compensatory pick for the loss of Asante Samuel.) What's most amusing, however, is the response from the Jet's fan forum. Here's one, for example, discussing the thought that Peppers would be joining the Patriots. Speaking of the current Jet's quarterbacks: Originally Posted by Misc Jets Fan Who had the faster 40, Clemens, Ainge, or Ratliff, make him the starter for the Pat games, since he'll be running all game.
  15. Congrats! Another prospective jazz fan!
  16. Looking forward to your opinion. The band seems to be the same one which was recorded on the four Woody Shaw Live cds, sans Hutcherson that were put out by High Note. Similar material, I suppose?
  17. Rushed thread. Dusty Groove offers Woody Shaw reissues.
  18. Apparently, both were taken from the same concert. Is this correct?
  19. Anybody have any scoop about the sound and music quality of these? Night Music Master of the Art Any comments anyone? Sangry?
  20. Happy Birthday Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
  21. Pats would not be interested at all. First of all, how many balls would T.O. get with Moss and Welker on the team? Welker gets about 100 receptions each season. Secondly, the Pats won't have much cap room left once they extend either Mankins or Wilfork. Third, T.O. is a noted team buster. I doubt BB would allow that cancer into the lockerroom. I see that the Bills signed him. Actually, it is not surprising given the difficulty the Bills have in signing free agents. Nobody likes playing in small market Buffalo. The Bills seem to lose out on many free agents who visited them, but also visited other teams.
  22. Happy Birthday Johnny EEEEEEE!
