  1. The Cecil Taylor and Steve Lacy's "Morning Joy" are absolute must-haves if you consider yourself a fan of either artist. The Dave Douglas disc is also very good.
  2. JJ Possibly the best set in the Mosaic catalogue.
  3. Its doubtful. At least for Comedy Central. Rumor has it that the reason for the delay of the third season had to do with disputes about the content of the show between CC and Chappelle. The show didn't really become such a huge hit until the second season. Now that the show is so popular and well-known, and third season ratings were expected to be the highest of all the network's shows, supposedly CC wanted Chappelle to tone down the content a bit, being that so many more people were expected to tune in. Apparently Chappelle didn't approve of this, and this led to him just walking away. If this is true, we may not see Chappelle for a while. I'm sure that at some point he'll turn up on some other network. Hopefully it won't be a premium network like HBO. He's got the funniest show on on television, and it deserves to be seen by as wide of an audience as possible.
  4. I did like their verison of "Una Mas", but I didn't like the album as a whole and ended up selling it. This was like 4 years ago though....maybe now things would be different.
  5. "Bastion of Sanity" is one of my favorite releases of this year. The rhythm section blew my mind, and the horns sound great together. I don't have "Apparitions", but I plan on getting it sometime soon. I have "Allegory", which is Adam Rogers' previous release on Criss Cross featuring the same band. It smokes.
  6. Couldn't have said it better. My favorite Mosaic as well.
  7. Garters are some mean fuckers. Can't count how many times I've been bitten while trying to catch them. They've drawn blood a couple of times.
  8. I've always loved them. Used to own a 9 foot long boa constrictor.
  9. Good one! Thanks.
  10. I agree. I got it just about a month or so ago, and I am absolutely loving this set.
  11. Wasn't Jack DeJohnette supposed to be on drums for this one?
  12. I'm gonna get flamed for this......but I've always found Pete LaRoca to be a boring drummer. Not bad by any means, just not that interesting.
  13. Elvin Jones and Tony Williams are my favorites. I love Max Roach, Art Blakey and Philly Joe Jones as well. As for new guys, I like Brian Blade, Nasheet Waits and Matt Wilson.
  14. Its difficult to explain, but the idea of Batman running around in your own backyard takes away from the feel of the film tremendously. Tim Burton had no problem in this dept. Otherwise, I thought Batman Begins was a pretty decent flick. It wasn't much fun, but I don't think that is what they were going for, especially after the travesty of Joel Schumaker's vision. As far as comic book movies go, its one of the standouts, but that's not really saying much.
  15. Now I realize I'm not one of the most traveled guys around here, but just what is "Gotham City" supposed to look like anyway? ←
  16. Congrats, ghost. May your contributions always help keep this music alive and strong.
  17. My thoughts are with all our friends in London, as well as those with family there. This is terrible.
  18. Another endorsement for the JRM. Heaven on earth for a jazz fan. Plus, they have most of their OJC's priced between $9.99 - $11.99 right now. And they have em ALL!

    Fred Anderson

I will be out of town on the 14th....otherwise, there would have been no way I'd miss that one.
  20. Fantasy's is my favorite re-issue program of them all. The K2's and the SACD consistantly sound great and come wth great packaging. My favorite K2s are the ones of the Bill Evans trio at the Vanguard. WOW!!!!
  21. Aside from the fine acting, unbelievable visual effects and sound, and the high doses of suspense, what I really liked about this movie is that it didn't give into any chiches. It could have easily had corny one liners. There were characters in the beginning that could have made sporadic appearences throughout to provide comic relief. I could get into more, but I might ruin some of the plotline for those who haven't seen it. But lets just say that it was a very straight-forward film with very little dialogue, lots of great camera work, and almost nothing in the bullshit department. This film could have sunk at any given moment, but it didn't. I really respect that.
  22. Agree completely. This was a great movie.

    Tom Harrell

Try "Upswing" and "Labyrinth". Those are my two favorites. "Live at the Village Vanguard" also kicks ass. All three of these are pretty much "straight ahead".

    Favorite "Comper"?

Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner are my favorites, although I only recently realized how brilliant Hank Jones is as well. His comping on the new Joe Lovano CD really caught my ear, and after going back and re-listening to all the Hank Jones in my collection, its clear that he's one of the best.
