  1. I think the best one is "Live Art". A wide variety of tunes, plus some nice guest spots from Branford Marsalis & Chick Corea.
  2. I really like this one. In a sense it picks up where Blood Sutra left off, but more restrained and controlled. Great move switching drummers...the drummer from Blood Sutra was fantastic as well, but was a bit heavy handed, which served the music on that album well. But this album sounds more together, for lack of a better word. I need to listen to it more. Vijay Iyer proves that jazz is in good hands for the next generation.
  3. Same here.....the day it comes out, its mine.
  4. People usually post them when they are sent out via the e-mail list. Border's hasn't sent any out, therefore there isn't anything new.
  5. My favorite are the Transformers original animated series from Rhino. I lived and died to watch these cartoons as a child, and having them all on DVD is bliss.
  6. On my short list. Edit: Just found it at my local Best Buy (!) for a decent price. Looking forward to giving it a spin in the next couple days.
  7. I'm very interested to hear feedback about this one. I liked Bounce quite a bit, but have heard mixed reviews about Flow.
  8. There is a thread somewhere on this board about the 3 disc live album from SF Jazz Collective that you can order from the website. I believe the new release on Nonesuch is drawn from this 3 disc set. Very good music. Looking forward to hearing the new Elastic Band disc. I really enjoyed the last one, as well as the YaYa 3 disc.
  9. Very thoughtful post, LWayne. Seeing Bobby is always a delight.
  10. I've been podering this one, and now I think I'll take the plunge. Thanks Alfred.
  11. Which volumes are those, Amir?
  12. I've been researching the flood of Dick's Picks that have come out in the past couple of years (I haven't gotten one since vol. 20-something) and there looks like there are some really great ones that have come out recently!! Lots of 1977 shows!!! Might have to place an order soon.

    Maurice Brown

Its funny seeing what people are writing when its obvious that many haven't heard anything by this cat, aside from maybe a sound clip. Listen to the new Ernest Dawkins CD, or the Fred Anderson disc "Back at the Velvet Lounge" and I challenge you to call him "boring". He does his funk/hip hop stuff as well as jazz....does every trumpeter have to play strictly run-of-the-mill bop orientated music to not be branded as one who is chasing the almighty dollar? These young cats have grown up exposed to a much larger music pool. When the older guys were growing up, cultural distances were so much greater but now that's no longer the case. These new guys have a cornucopia of new sounds coming out of their music. Its just the way things are now a days. And don't even use him in the same sentence as Chris Botti....obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. Criticism for having a line of women's panties? I bet you wouldn't be hating if women were wearing panties with your name on them.
  14. Was enjoying disc 3 of the Paul Chambers Select last night. "Bass on Top" absolutely smokes!!!
  15. The only time I ever walked out of a theater was for Napolean Dynamite. I just don't get it......

Demon dogs is closed....or is closing soon.
  18. Any comments on this album from anyone?
  19. I love Swallow's electric bass playing. Completely original and grooving.
  20. Anyone heard the release "Rockin' the Rhein"? Its some more Europe 72 stuff.
  21. You should try Wilco's new one "A Ghost is Born". Far from poppy.
  22. How strange...I was planning on starting a thread about this one sometime this week. Its a gem of an album. I'd never heard it, nor heard of it, and was completely taken back. MUCH more than a typical BN hard bop date, it really stands out. Grab it.
  23. Sadly, the Velvet Lounge may join these ranks soon.

Check out the most recent CD by Ernest Dawkins' New Horizons Ensemble titled "Mean Ameen". Maurice Brown absolutely kills on this one.
