  1. The only Pelt disc I have is "Insight" on the Criss Cross label, which is excellent. He sounds really good on the Ralph Peterson Criss Cross sessions as well. He's really a fine trumpet player....one of the best young cats around IMO. I need to get this, as well as Close to my Heart, his previous MaxJazz disc.
  2. Winard Harper Sextet is in town at the Showcase this week. I'm hoping to catch a set or two over the weekend.
  3. I'd remove "Moanin' "and put "Free For All" in its place.
  4. I thought so too. The original Jurassic Park's dinosaurs look better, and thats 12 years ago. But then again, its tough to beat out ILM in the effects dept. I'll probably still see the movie though. I liked Lord of the Rings and am curious to chart Peter Jackson's progress. Also, I'm a fan of Adrien Brody and especially Naomi Watts.
  5. What does a decent Sirius car stereo with a CD player cost?
  6. Thanks! Just pre-ordered Oblique, Judgement and Time for Tyner.
  7. BruceW, wasn't Dawn of the Dead the second one, and Day of the Dead the third? I hope my comments weren't mis interperted as me disliking Night of the Living Dead. It is probably my favorite of the series. I agree that Land of the Dead is the best one since Dawn of the Dead. I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead, but its been on my list to rent for quite some time now. It has now moved to the top of that list, and I will probably pick it up soon.
  8. I got the chance to see it yesterday and I loved it. While I wouldn't put it on the same level as "Night of the Living Dead" or the original "Dawn of the Dead", it is much stronger than "Day of the Dead", and FAR superior to any of these other so called "horror" movies coming out. Seeing this movie was like a breath of fresh air. It is very refreshing to see that some directors still have the balls to put such horrific images on the screen. Fans of the series should really like this one. It has strong doses of Romero's trademark social commentary to go along side LOTS of really gory scenes of zombies feasting on human flesh. Plus some great comedic moments as well. Dennis Hopper is fantastic, and the rest of the supporting cast does a good job as well. Those who are not fans of the series may not appreciate what Romero is doing here, but nonetheless it is without a doubt a worthy entry to the series.
  9. I love Volume 1....absolutely smokin'. Will get Volume 2 whenever I get the chance.
  10. Thanks Quincy. I visit this site often, but didn't realize that they had done a comparison of this movie.
  11. There seems to be over 10 different DVD versions of the classic George Romero film out there, and many, many opinons to go with each one. Does anyone know which version is the definitive version to get? I want the uncut, black and white original version with the best sound & picture. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. I would if I had an unlimited income supply.
  13. Sopranos (1-5) Simpsons (3-5) Seinfeld (3-4) Orignal Transformers animated series (all of em) Chapelle's Show (1-2) Blue Planet: Seas of Life (BBC) (all of em)
  14. I'm officially a White Stripes fan! Had never heard them before, and a friend lent me "White Blood Cells". What a kick ass rock album.
  15. Have a great time! Its a really fun show. The new tunes on the new album are hot!
  16. I wonder if this thing with Borders is a national trend. All three Borders that I normally visit seem to have cut back on jazz. A shame. Good thing Jazz Record Mart and Dusty Groove are in the vicinity.
  17. I finally picked this one up and am enjoying the majority of the album. Some of the tracks I can see myself skipping on future listenings, but there is some really nice music on here. The core trio is becoming more and more powerful as time goes by. When the guitar works, it really works well.
  18. Yeah, no kidding!! I'm beginning to wonder if the blatent look of Gotham City as Chicago was deliberate.
  19. I mentioned this on the other board, and I hate being a buzzkill, but the filmmakers did WAY TOO LITTLE to make the setting of the film look like Gotham City. This movie, folks, is a Batman movie that takes place in Chicago, except with three "L" train tracks instead of just one, and a small ghetto CGI-ed into where Navy Pier would be. This was IMO the only real fault of the film, but its a BIG one when the viewer doesn't feel like they are in Gotham City. I envy those of you who didn't notice this, but when you live in a place all your life, its hard to not notice. The Sears Tower and the cars with Illinois license plates didn't help much either.
  20. I think that YaYa3 was more focused on jazz tunes, and was more of a co-led group. The Elastic Band is under Joshua Redman's leadership, and the music is significantly different.
  21. The new Elastic Band album is really good. Where as the first album was also good, it sounded at times like he wasn't too sure what to do with the band now that he had the creative control (unlike YaYa3, which was more of a Yahel disc). With this one, everything just sounds tighter. The beats are funky, the musicianship is top notch, and the songs contain lots of memorable melodies. A great one for summer.
  22. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  23. I am completely blown away by this release. This is without a doubt my favorite release of the year so far and may very well be the best of 2005.

    BOBBY WATSON ?

Check out the disk by guitarist Mark Kleinhaut that came out last year called "Balance of Light". A beautiful disc with one of Bobby's best recorded performances IMO.
