  2. One of the best things about getting an iPod was being able to rip my box sets while excluding alternate takes.
  3. Don't forget those two wonderful Andrew Hill albums "Dusk" and "A Beautiful Day". I just ordered Ben Allison's last two releases along with Dewey Redman's "In London".

    iPod question

Came across my first "issue" with my new iPod.... I'm having it shuffle all the songs, but Im finding that its cutting songs before they are over and moving on to the next one. Anyone know why this is happening? Maybe something that needs to be fixed in iTunes? Thanks!
  5. Im really interested to hear you elaborate further about this.
  6. I have finally joined the revolution! I bought my first mp3 player last night, a black 120GB iPod Classic. I was up until midnight last night ripping CDs, and have only used about 1GB of space so far (loving iTunes so far), but I am really reveling in the joys of this amazing machine this morning here at work, as I listen to "Maiden Voyage" at my desk. What a joy!
  7. I read Franz Kafka's story "The Metamorphosis" yesterday. It was a really sad story, not only because of the main character and his attempts to hang onto his humanity, but also how easily he was discarded by his family once they realized they really didn't need him anymore. A pretty bleak view on life, yet captivating at the same time. I think I'm going to check out more of Kafka's work. Next up, "Confessions of a Crap Artist" by Philip K Dick.
  8. RIP RIG AND PANIC
  9. It's a big crazy state Oregon - something for just about everyone. I hear ya! I spent a few weeks out there about 5 years ago, and fell in love with the place, particularly the Eugene area. Its been my goal to move out there ever since, and Im hoping to make that come true in the next year.
  10. I need that Nichols and Lee Morgan, and would really like to get that Dylan Bootleg Series set too. Oh well....I just bought the Braxton Mosaic and a bunch of books. I'll exercise self control.
  11. Thanks! Yeah, I was planning on somewhere around Portland or just in that coastal range.
  12. Any of our Oregon board members have any thoughts to share about the winters up there? I was there about 6 years ago for NYE and it was 60! I know its not like that all the time, but are they somewhat mild? Im considering a move there next year.
  13. Its also my birthday....and Bruce Lee's! Hope you all have a great holiday!
  14. A nice session!
  15. Im taking yet another break from my 1000+ page book on Middle Eastern history and picking up a couple books I can bring with me to South Carolina this Thanksgiving. "Welcome to the Monkey House" - Kurt Vonnegut "Last Night at the Lobster - "Stewart O'Nan"

    Bill Carrothers

    Very nice recording!
  17. This new Q-Tip album is the shit. Loving it.
  18. For me, the only Mosaic box I bought that I dislike is the Tristano/Konitz/Marsh set. I enjoy the Warne Marsh stuff, but Konitz to me is the audio equivalant of watching paint dry. The Tristano solo stuff was interesting to hear once, but I just can't get into it. This set gets no play anymore.
  19. The re-listening experience is one of the main reasons I've stopped buying so many jazz recordings over the past couple of years. I feel like I have a lifetime of listening in the music that I already have.
  20. I actually placed a book order from amazon a couple days ago, and this is one that I ordered! I'm pretty psyched to read it. However, I think this one was written a bit later (mid 60s I think?).
  21. I just finished "Time Out of Joint" and really liked it. While not as profound for me as "Ubik" I found this one to be funner to read, and am now thinking about exploring some of his other earlier novels. Any favorites from the pre - "Time Out of Joint" period?
  22. Ive eaten dog a couple of times (the first time was inadvertantly) in Mexico. Its not too bad.
  23. I saw these guys live this past summer with Rick Margitza (sp?) on the sax. It was a very good show. These guys are talented musicians.

    Mitch Mitchell

He was one of my earliest drumming heroes. The best rock drummer of that period, for my money...even more so than Keith Moon. What a loss. And he wasn't very old either. RIP.
