  1. "Practical Demonkeeping" by Christopher Moore
  2. Damn straight and a-freakin'-men!!! It wasn't even limited to his albums: did anyone see that movie "Imagine: John Lennon"? {{{shudder}}} Not so sure I agree with this. Of course, I agree that Lennon's music solo wasn't as good as his earlier stuff with the Beatles. I don't think anybody can dispute that. But all Lennon did was fall in love with Yoko, and did what he did going forward. I don't think she "turned him" into anything. How many of us are the exact same person we used to be before and after falling in love?
  3. Reading "To Kill A Mockingbird" for the first time. Enjoying it so far.
  4. Lots of speculation going around regarding who will replace him. Guus Hiddink, Frank Rijkaard, the return of Avram Grant. I think I read somewhere about Carlos Ancolotti moving in from Milan and Rijkaard replacing him over there.
  5. Can't believe the Farrow is going to be gone already...didn't it just come out a few years ago? Really wanted that one. Oh well. Can't do it.
  6. What ever happened to patience? Jeez!
  7. I hope everyone who wanted this set got it! I was just listening to Some Other Stuff yesterday. This is probably my favorite Select.
  8. Thank you for the nice post Shawn. It got me thinking about my childhood too, and brought a tear to my eye. I miss those days. Having lost my job recently as well, I've been doing alot more thinking about my childhood than I used to.
  9. Rabo De Nube is excellent. I've enjoyed most of Lloyd's ECM stuff.
  10. Saga of the Outlaws is GREAT!!! My cousins and I really enjoyed listening to it this evening.
  11. This thread got me going back through my Dicks Picks collection, which I think are the best way (along with other mediums of listening to complete Dead shows) to experience the Dead in the comfort of your home. Besides vol 10 which I mentioned earlier, I also really enjoy volumes 6, 8, 11 and 15. Athough the later Dicks Picks are very solid too, i definitley think that the cream of the crop were picked by Dick Latvala while he was still alive.
  12. Eric, I happened to get both of these books using a Borders gift card given to me a couple months back. Haven't read either one, but heard lots of positive things about both. Please let us know what you think of them.
  13. I bought Chuck Nessa's two latest releases (Tyler and Leo Smith) a couple days back. I also purchased a digital copy of The Verve's "Urban Hymns"
  14. I guess I was hoping for more commentary from the reviewer, but for someone who doesn't have the set, the extended sound clips are nice. In any event, this is one of my favorite jazz box sets, Mosaic or otherwise. Im delighted that I bought it before losing my job!
  15. Im back to reading Robert Fisk's "The Great War for Civilisation". On top of it being 1000+ pages, its not the easiest nor the most pleasant reading, but its nice to read a chapter or two of it at a time in between other books. Its also one of the most informative and comprehensive history books Ive ever read. I feel like Im taking a college course, and I don't mean that in a negative way at all. After a couple more chapters of this one, I plan on reading Chuck Palahniuk's "Invisible Monsters". I recently finished Philip K Dick's "Confessions of a Crap Artist", which I mentioned in the Philip K Dick thread. Great read.
  16. To watch, football (not American football) To play, tennis. And hiking too, if thats considered a sport.
  17. What luck...a hardcover edition of this book was just released this week! I'll add it to my wish list. Thanks jazzbo!
  18. I recently finished reading "Confessions of a Crap Artist", a novel I noticed was mentioned a few times earlier in this thread. This was my favorite Philip K Dick read so far! Its a story that will probably be relavant for as long as humans continue to populate the earth. I loved it!
  19. Pretty run of the mill, IMO
  20. Although Im tempted to say the Braxton because I've been listening to it so much, I'd still have to go with the Jazztet, which remains my favorite Mosaic. Its such a rich, varied set, with so many of the songs full of surprises. Its music that sounds so fresh, and its enjoyable as all hell. It enriched my world.
  21. I loved this movie as well. Mickey Rourke was fantastic and deserves the Oscar. Marisa Tomei is eternaly beautiful and her performance was excellent as well.
  22. Dicks Picks volume 10
  23. Nice idea for the reissues! Hopefully they'll be reasonably priced. Radiohead is one of the great "rock" bands of these times.
  24. Slumdog Millionaire was fantastic. Gran Torino looks promising as well.
