  1. Just finished reading Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus". Oh man.
  2. At least he has good taste in football teams!
  3. Just restore.
  4. Should be an epic clash today! For anyone who isn't a fan of this sport but has been curious, tune into ESPN2 at 2:30 ET for what should be a very memorable game. Surely, these are the two best clubs in the world. Both have been playing INCREDIBLE football, and the atmosphere in Rome should be quite intense. I will be at the wonderful Globe Pub in Chicago watching with some friends. Can't wait!
  5. "The Echo Maker" by Richard Powers
  6. I'd be all over this one.
  7. The movie was GREAT!!
  8. I just bought this book yesterday. Heard nothing but good things about it.
  9. I'm reading some of Ernest Hemingway's short stories, as I don't want to jump into a new novel quite yet. Chuck Palahniuk's "Pygmy" comes out this week and I'd like to read that as soon as I can get a copy of it. This morning, I read the story "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber". Wonderful!
  10. You weren't kidding!!
  11. Holy freakin' Bulls. This series has just been unbelievable.
  12. I thought both of this week's games were pretty dull.
  13. Chelsea is not playing tonight so it must be better.
  14. I've decided that as I read through PKD's body of work, I'm going to do so in chronological order. Probably won't read every single novel (at least not yet), but the ones I do read, I'm going to try and read them in the order he wrote them. I finished "The Man in the High Castle" a few weeks back and that one was a mind-blower. Just started "Martian Time Slip" today.
  15. I thought this collection definitely had its moments, but felt that her novel The Namesake was almost a quantum leap above this in terms of the themes and characters. So if you like Interpreter, you will definitely like The Namesake. She has a new novel, which I haven't gotten yet, but will get around to fairly soon. I'm going "backwards". Already read her new collection of stories, Unaccustomed Earth (excellent BTW), & The Namesake. Since Interpreter Of Maladies won the Pulitzer, I thought I should read it too. I'm through the 1st 3 stories - so far, so good. Saw her recently in person do a reading & an interview. A class act for sure. I have "Interpreter of Maladies" but have yet to read it yet. Heard many good things about it. I'm starting "Martian Time Slip" by Philip K. Dick today.
  16. I can't see it happening...too much animosity between the two clubs, especially at the moment. I can see him going to Spain. Perhaps following Ronaldo to Real Madrid? They need another striker...Ruud and Raul seem to be on their last legs. He'd do well there.
  17. Great news, Sal! Now if some better gigs come along, maybe we can get Mark back too. Absolutely! Look forward to it!
  18. Gabriel Garcia Marquez - "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" The only other Marquez I've read is "100 Years of Solitude", which I absolutely loved. I'm hoping his other works are, including the one I'm reading now, somewhat comparable.
  19. 3 months ago, I would have seriously considered this. I love Austin, and how often do you get the chance to live with another jazz fan for such low rent?? Things have settled though, and it looks as if I'll be back in Chicagoland for quite some time.
  20. Yossi Benayoun was great!!! Yes he was. I've been a Yossi fan for a long time...such a talented player. Deserves to play more. As does Ryan Babel, to a degree.
  21. Arshavin is a bad motherf*cker!
  22. Happy birthday, my friend!
  23. I really liked their first one on Savoy.
  24. bought the mp3s a few months back. have wanted this one for years but never picked it up. its a good one!
  25. Wow...these are two of the first albums I thought of when I read the first post here! Because both are such classics, it may be simple for the casual listener to overlook Max's contribution to these two. Don't. Some of his best work is here. His work with J.J. Johnson on Columbia is excellent as well. And of course, "One in Two, Two in One" with Anthony Braxton.
