  1. The auction got the bidder "lepianiste" to bid against himself to get over the reserve. Greater fool theory. Once the reserve is met upping his bid won't affect the maximum bid as long as he's the high bidder. If the reserve was $200.oo and his earlier bids were below $200 the auction would show "reserve not met." He would have to bid again to met the reserve. Unless you watched every bid, I assume that since he has bidded the last three times, he was bidding against himself to get to the reserve of $200. lepianiste( 116) - Feb-05-04 07:04:01 PST lepianiste( 116) - Feb-03-04 13:13:40 PST lepianiste( 116) - Feb-03-04 13:13:01 PST tube_map( 592) - Feb-04-04 19:07:43 PST tube_map( 592) - Feb-04-04 19:07:37 PST tube_map( 592) - Feb-04-04 19:07:30 PST lepianiste( 116) - Feb-03-04 13:12:51 PST lylek19( 66) - Feb-04-04 05:06:15 PST lepianiste( 116) - Feb-03-04 13:12:39 PST jazzmarkzhao( 1 ) - Feb-03-04 22:14:19 PST lepianiste( 116) He may have bidded over $200 on his last bid, but since no one else has bidded after him, the $200 will not increase has you have suggested. Greater fool theory, because we are waiting for a greater fool to top his bid. I don't suggest you try it, unless you want to waste your money.
  2. Feels Like Home is being advertised at BEst Buy & Circuit City for $10. BMG club has a 2 for 1 offer with Norah Jones. Guess she'll be #1 this week.
  3. The auction got the bidder "lepianiste" to bid against himself to get over the reserve. Greater fool theory.
  4. Is it for Europeans only?
  5. If the price is right I'll buy an LP. Usually they are overpriced. Most Blue Notes, I never saw on LP, so when the CDs came out - I bought all that I could. (even some imports) I'm thinking of dumping most duplicate LPs.
  6. Alot of rare items get stolen from libraries. Many times the libraries will have sales of items they delete from their catalog. Items are usually sold cheap. Depending on the radio station. The DJs may raid them for personal use or the format of the station may change. You can't control much from your grave. B)
  7. Peter, If you're getting old, start selling your collection. Or donating it.
  8. Depending on how much $$ your wife wants, she might just take all of them. She may let the kids take what they want and then keep all the remaining for herself to sell later. Course, your kids may look at the value of the collection too and just want to select the items that they can sell. Who's the trustee?? Your wife?? If you have someone else be the trustee, your wife might be pissed and take all of your collection to sell later too. Just talk with your wife or get enough insurance that it doesn't matter. If your collection is sold cheap, it will eventually become a bargain for another music lover. Keep those 'used' record stores in business too.
  9. SHOUT bought BIOGRAPHY? Wonder how much that label sold for?
  10. Guess I better use up my Tower Credit certificates. Where will I return those SEALED cds?
  11. True. I wasn't saying she has the pop writing skills as Carole King, just the vocal sound.
  12. I was thinking about Norah Jones voice/sound. It's Carole King - She's raw, natural, and earthy. Today's version. (my age is showing )
  13. Looks like it. I just bought the Jim Croce LIVE DVD.

  17. Does anybody know about these box sets? Comments / recommendations? Oscar Peterson 4-CD Compendium of the Pablo Years. Complete Prestige/Pablo Modern Jazz Quartet (4-cd) box
  18. Absolutely! I remember visiting the Rhino store in LA in 1984 when I was assigned to cover the Olympic Games. Nice store but gee! it did not look like a $60 million business deal then. The retail record store did not sell for 60 million. Rhino label was like Mosaic label, they made re-issues and compilation box sets.
  19. There was a good article about Rhino Records in the January 2004 issue of Los Angeles Magazine. It mentioned the founders and that Time Warners bought half the company (Rhino) in 1992. In 1998, Time Warner bought the remaining half of Rhino. Estimated at the time - $60 million. In 2000, Time Warner merged with AOL. Garson Foos and Harold Bronson left when their contracts ended. Bronson is now president of Rhino Films. Foos has started a new re-issue company called SHOUT in January 2002. Specializing in putting out offbeat CD and DVD collections. Recent DVD releases include lost episodes of Groucho Marz in YOU BET YOUR LIFE, and its HEROES OF THE BLUES cd series. Some of the original staff still remain at AOL/Time Warner. Course, Time Warner has agreed to sell the music division to Seagram's heir Edgar Bronfman Jr. B)
