  1. Just used the conference calling system. Very easy. Works well too. Free long distance calls!
  2. I can understand the downsizing of the classical sections. But jazz? The DVD market has gotten very large. Seems like everybody has a DVD player and way too many movies. Does Amoeba ever have any sales??
  3. People are strange. DOORS
  4. I just tried this free software from skype.com and it works well. The sound is similar to a regular phone call. It works like instant messaging. Yes, you can do text messaging too. Just buy a mic (I got a headset/mic from Radio Shack for $3). Obviously, both parties have to be online at the same time and have the skype software. Works with with XP computers. Supposedly, the latest software, also works with 98 operating systems too. It also has the ability to do conference calling. I haven't tried it yet.
  5. Let me know what extras you have to trade? Can't say I'm hot on the trail for anything particular (at this time). PM or email me.
  6. I think a very large percentage of what is in this box won't be issued for a long time - if ever. There are 3rd and 4th takes of some tunes and I believe these are the only issues EVER of those. At this stage -15 or 16 years after the first of these boxes was issued, a lot of the MASTERS are unavailable on cd. I really think there will never be a reissue of this material as complete as this. Yeah, but since LPs can be transferred to cdrs. I'm sure that have been a ton of transfers already. Then look at what Definitive and other European companies do after 50 years... Just bug one of those companies and I'm sure we'll see the Complete Commodore issued as a cheap box set. Probably about $5/disc.
  7. French RCA issued a series of 23 LPs in the '70s 'The Works of Duke Ellington' which had all the Duke RCA sides up to the 1952 concert in Seattle. With a number of alternates that were unreleased at the time. Thanks brownie, Now I remember all those French RCA (black and white overs) reissues. I got some of the French Blues series on LP too. Just was remembering all the funny colored 2-fer Bluebird LPs that made up of most of the other complete series. Like Fats Waller, Bunny Berigan, Glen Miller, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey...
  8. Yeah, I got an extra (4cd) HOT BOX. Anybody interested?
  9. What I think is funny is that the article is written in New York. It's about a California family. They buy the car in Park City, Utah. It's an expensive car. And it's discussed here. (internationally) (Didn't say how weathly the family is?)
  10. I assume RCA will put out the complete box set again - just when? Probably remastered again too. Maybe sold this time as a Box set. Course, I'd like to see the RCA Goodman complete and Artie Shaw complete on CD too. I'm trying to remember, was the Complete RCA Ellington ever released on LP in any series?
  11. I saw the film. Shaw was in the audience too and took questions. Does anyone know if it's available on DVD or VHS?
  12. Probably over 6. (more than I want to think about) Waiting for the right mood and enough time. Mildred Bailey is 10 discs. Sarah Vaughan is another big set. Don't know when I'll ever get to Nat King Cole. Bunny Berigan is another 7 discs. Almost in the mood for the Mulligan set. I'm still trying to get thru the pile of Chronogical CLASSICS I picked up last week. Also in the middle of watching the Duke Ellington DVD Live at Tivoli Gardens. Too much music.
  13. Yeah, buy as many as you'd like.
  14. Before the domestic issue came out, I was trying to buy the import (unsuccessfull) for over $20.

    Greatest Finds

Hey, if anybody's interested, I have an extra FIELDS on cassette. Just pass me the postage. (I have the CD too)
  16. Thanks jazzbo, I'll give the discs a spin.
  17. The vouchers came in the latest mailings with brochures and other junk mail.
  18. Does anyone know anything about; Billy Kyle 1939-1946 Lucky Millinder 1943-1947 Alix Combelle 1935-1940 Johnny Guarnieri 1944-1946 Skeets Tolbert 1931-1940 Spirits of Rhythm 1933-1945 Maxine Sullivan 1938-1941 I picked these up SEALED at the local store on sale. $8 Wondering if I should keep them? Tolbert looks like a clarinet guy, so I'm interested in him. Never really hear of the others.
  19. Yeah, my aunt passed away. She didn't spend her money, over 1 million in HP stock. Her house was so full of junk, that you could barely walk thru it. Mainly clothes and jewelry that she bought and never used. Lots of stuff still in the box. Even cash in misc evelops/letters. B)
  20. Sounds like a reasonable request by your wife. Have you heard of CD-burners?
  21. Sounds familiar. Gotten Bud Shank & Bob Cooper Select recently. Bunny Berigan Mosaic (still unopened)
  22. Welcome to the bullshit world of class action lawsuits, Chuck. The financial world gets hit with them all the time and all they do is drive up cost for the consumer, without providing any real restitution for victims. Man, if I could get my hands on a class action lawyer, I'd....and I'd.... and I'd.... you get the idea. (The bastards!) Is this a comment about John Edwards? (class action lawyers)
  23. My latest BMG brochure had box sets at discounted prices. Who was looking for THE COMPLETE ELLA FITZGERALD SONG BOOKS (16cd)? $88.98 (plus shipping charges & taxes) JOHN COLTRANE COMPLETE HEAVYWEIGHT ATLANTIC RECORDINGS (7CD) $44.98 SONNY ROLLINS: COMPLETE PRESTIGE (7CD) $40.98 FRANK SINATRA : COMPLETE REPRISE (20CD) $80.98
  24. I've gotten vouchers from BMG for the settlement. If you bought 1-5 at regular price - you get 1 CD at 75% w/ free shipping/handling. ($4.50) Bought 6-10 - you get 2 @ 75% off. Bought 11 or more - you get 3. I will only ask for 1, since I usually cancel after fullfilling my membership. B)
