  1. Must...resist...
  2. Tjobbe, we use that stuff on our windows all the time...
  3. I panicked and ordered the set in January, thinking it had to hit running low pretty soon. I was wrong with the prediction, but not with ordering the set! Very nice music, and (at least to my ears) not "just another hard bop Mosaic". You probably don't have to leap until it actually hits the list, but don't miss it! (But then, doesn't someone say that about every Mosaic? I can't wait until someone scares me into ordering the Four Freshman set... )
  4. Oh, man...I have seriously fond memories of Apple Beer!
  5. I managed "Grammar God" as well. Which tells me that you only have to hit 50% to reach that level...
  6. I think it's a fancy word for eating too many pies; it helps with the overweight part...
  7. Hell, Bob & Ray still are! Of course, the Elliot family is exhibit one for the behaviorists when arguing against the importance of genetics...
  8. Wow...I'd give a new listener A Love Supreme before I gave them Giant Steps. I never thought the former was all that difficult to follow. That said, i agree totally with the camp that says it depends on what they listen to already. My Favorite Things and Kind of Blue were perfect for me. I know some who would latch on quicker with the Brotzmann I'm listening to right now. Just depends...
  9. Damn! We try to pretend PFunk's post about pornography wasn't true, and then Ray posts this...we'll never live this down!
  10. Yeah, I understand his reputation, Alexander, but I don't laugh at reputations. If a stand-up makes me think in addition to laughing, that definitely elevatest him. But he's gotta make me laugh first, you know? That said, I'm not really knocking Bruce, because I'm far more familiar with his rep than his material.
  11. (For comparison's sake, I'll take Steven Wright any day. Or Bob Newhart. Gimme the deadpans!)
  12. My choices for two most overrated comedians of all time: Lenny Bruce and Sam Kinnison. Just based on the material I've heard, mind you, maybe with Bruce I never heard the good stuff... These two may be influential, but funny? Maybe I'm just too serious.
  13. You have the Fillmore album? Sigh....
  14. Bites the biggie. Overcast and grim, yet no rain for the plants. A bit cool, but a nice day to stay inside...
  15. Snagged four discs at Streetlight last night- Some godawful compilation disc that had Miss Toni Fisher's The Big Hurt A 2 CD Kinks import for when I'm too lazy to dig out the vinyl Sun Ra's Nuclear War Peter Brotzmann's Live at Nefertiti I was looking for a bluegrass disc to round out the absolute weirdness of the purchase, but couldn't find one that caught my eye...
  16. Well, I survived, though just barely! I was too beat to report my existence last night, and now I'm off to work. I knew it was going to be an all day affair, but you just don't remember how bad it is... Ray, I did manage to negotiate a "last stop" at Streetlight Records on the way to dinner, so it wasn't a complete waste!
  17. Well, this is it troops. Volunteers were called for, and I decided to step up and take one for the team. It won't be an easy mission, and I may not make it. Much to PFunk's disappointment, I won't be hanging around here all day today, and who knows; may not be seen again. If I don't make it, I leave all my CDs and LPs to be divided among the group, and expect GARussell to light up a good stogie in my memory. The commander has issued the orders, and it's going to be an all day mission. Shed a tear for me, gents; we're going "shopping"....
  18. That happened to me once. Except it was in Illinois back in the late 70s. And it wasn't an earthquake. Sometimes the first hunch is the best...
  19. Well, a simpler explanation would be that I'm just blinded by love, but you know, there's that room of the house that she won't let me into...
  20. Not a problem; just remember that the "Woolen Fantasy" site runs out of bandwidth pretty easily, so don't be too baa-a-a-ad...
  21. After the Loma Prieta quake back in '89 (wanna see pictures of my grandchildren?), I don't even notice these little quakes.
  22. That's certainly something to look forward to...
