  1. The NFL?? You mean that "sport" that consists largely of overweight men standing around catching their breath for 45 seconds after actually having to play for 5 seconds? Hah!
  2. Hey, you should give Thompson a try, Berigan! Good stuff! But I've yet to see one single thing I was interested in on that list on my page. Including the 20 assorted hiphop CDs...
  3. Hey, you can call me a chump, let Deep post here (as long as I don't have to read it), AND not notice if I don't post for a week, but don't start knocking hockey, eh?
  4. Wasn't he kicked out of the band for throwing his bass or something like that?
  5. I'm sorry, but so many smart assed responses are flooding my brain on this one that I'm paralyzed...
  6. There's just something disconcerting about reading this thread and then seeing that vibes is reading it at the same time..
  7. Either that was a subtle hint, or someone just whacked me between the antlers with a 2X4...
  8. God, I love the use of the "royal we"! We are definitely amused!!
  9. You really know how to hit below the belt, don't you? That's only the album that hooked me on jazz to begin with. What can I say? And yet even with Coltrane, I can only take so much soprano. With Shorter (who's tone sounds somewhat nasal to me already) I can handle far less before giving up.
  10. This is going to stand out like a sore thumb, but probably Lene Lovich's New Toy EP...
  11. Not as a rule, but I'm eagerly awaiting the CD release of The Name of this Band is Talking Heads, so I guess I do. My stereo equipment is strictly low grade, and at least I know I'm not doing any damage to the CDs by playing them. I love vinyl, and the older I get the more I miss the jackets, but still, as a practical matter, the CD is more convenient.
  12. If I remember right, about eight hours worth...
  13. Well, if Paul is going to start right off insulting Miles, can I do less than insult Shorter and Coltrane? I really could do without the soprano sax. That is the most irritating, nasal sounding thing I've ever heard. Reminds me of a cross between a sitar and a kazoo...
  14. Dr. Funkenstein???? Damn, I'm turning green! I wonder if I can post 1000 times tonight...
  15. You know, Ed, if your wife finds out that you've been using sabotage to obtain Mosaics...
  16. Personally, I won't be checking out the board; I simply don't have the time. I've tried to add AAJ and Jazzcorner to my jazz board roaming, but there just aren't enough hours in the day. Unfortunately, I can't surf the web at work, so... As far as how or why the original BNBB ceased to exist, I'm a bit shocked that anyone is still hung up on that...
  17. Don't listen to those bozos, Goodspeak; the only way to lose the newbie tag is to be insulted by Dan Gould, JohnnyE, Christiern, Berigan, or myself. We'll take your application under advisement...
  18. Only .242...I blame Greg.
  19. I wouldn't advise even touching the bull around here...
  20. CARROT!!! That's carrot! Sorry 'bout that, Tod...
  21. I hate the way you Europeans get the news first on these things! I was gonna back a parrot cake...
  22. Which reminds me, I heard a rumor that Blue Note was starting a new reissue series called "Serious Shit" that would offer remastered sonic upgrades on all the real stinkers in their catalog...don't buy them now; wait for the remastering!!
  23. It's obvious to me that our world-views are so different that discussion of this is probably pointless, but my first reaction to your comments is "how naive". The "race card" is always in play in this country, whether anyone mentions it or not. And the idea that reaction wouldn't be far more vociferous if it had been 50 Cent and Hillary Duff rather than Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake just amazes me. No, you wouldn't hear the cries about the "sullying of our white women by the mongrel races" (at least not in public), but the reaction would be even stronger, and the blame would be laid solely at the feet of 50 Cent, whereas reaction in this case seems to blame Janet Jackson more than Justin Timberlake. I'm happy for you that you live in a circle that isn't exposed to racism on a daily basis, but perhaps you need to widen your exposure a bit...
  24. Help! Police! I've just received an obscene thread!
  25. ubu-I won't recommend this, but I know I should have listened to discs 2-4 before disc 1 of that one...
