  1. What censorship? What's missing? It looks like the thread is as long as ever. Of course, Groper, if you're talking about the thread being locked down at Deep's request, then I guess you're just another garden variety idiot who can't read...
  2. I'd offer to keep you posted about what goes on over there, Dan, but I've logged out never to return. I don't care about the censorship as much as perhaps I should, and this does take care of the silly overreaction of banning the mention of other jazz sites. Trivial as it may sound (and, in all honesty, I can't condone your response to it!) the idea of a moderator who refers in public to posters as "twerps" is something I can't abide. Screw him.
  3. I agree, Bev; that seems fair. (By the way, I knew you were part of it, Bev; for the usual Yank reason, I'm not likely to forget your name! )
  4. *Whew!* One good thing about "dial-up"; I had time to think "this better be Lester, not George, Sngry!!"
  5. Uh...Bev, don't look now, but we're not the ones that want to pretend that other boards don't exist, okay? Yeah, the cheerleading stuff gets pretty silly, but then we're probably somewhat insecure what with having had our original "home" shut down, then going through the "great BNBB diaspora", losing friends to other boards and finally settling here. So we're a bit touchy and like to toot our own horn; at least we don't get in a snit and announce that no one can mention any other jazz board here... By the way, to others, I completely understand the point made about the "Organissimo's down" announcements on AAJ, and if that's what's bugging Ricci, he could have said so. This silly "don't mention other boards" policy of his (and apparently of Lois as well) is well, just silly. It's not like the online jazz community is that small, and certainly everyone knows about these three boards, if not others; why pretend they don't exist?
  6. Got it; like it. But it's not my favorite live Blakey of that period.
  7. Wish I hadn't brought the "twerp" thing up now, of course, but it's too late...
  8. To be honest, the last time I was there and saw the unprofessional behavior of the moderator (referring to "the twerp Dan Gould"), I pretty much wrote the place off anyway. Hey, it's okay for me to insult Dan, but not some stranger!! But if it makes anyone feel better, I'll pretend it was for this...
  9. Corvette??? Hell, you're not spending enough on jazz, Tony!
  10. That's a good point, couw. B) (Hey, just seeing if I can still get away with it...)
  11. Exactly. I didn't think of Bechet, as he doesn't sound like he's playing that annoying soprano!
  12. That's a good point, couw! B)
  13. That's a good point, couw! B)
  14. Yeah, it's the same old problem with PMs and subscribed threads, the old "mail error" thing. But don't resend anything, or JSngry's always-stuffed box will explode!
  15. Gee, thanks for the link, Lon... Okay, change one vote from "no" to "yes", but don't expect me to make a habit of it, okay?
  16. Wait a minute; I think I misread the thread title...
  17. Jeez, my wife won't even let me set up a video camera!
  18. I hear you, soulstation! It was my second as well, and a good reason why it took me so long to bite on the Dial/Savoy set. Brad, you make a good point, but I'm sure you'll agree that you're a bigger Bird fan than I am. While Parker's influence cannot be overstated, I don't have the same impression that I can't have too much of him. Admittedly, a jazz "collection" with little or no Bird is obviously missing a cornerstone, but in most cases I've opted for breadth rather than a highly focused approach. Mind you, I still think Bird is underrepresented on my shelves. I have the Complete Dial/Savoy set, The Quintet, Diz and Bird at Carnegie Hall, Bird at Storyville, the 52nd St. disc, and a couple of CDs that have been made redundant by the Dial/Savoy set. I feel that there are glaring holes in having none of the Verve studio material, and no JATP stuff at all. Pathetic holes. But I really don't feel a burning desire to get the Benedetti set at all. I'd much rather take that money and get, say, the Django set, an artist I have nothing by.
  19. I'd like to hear some recommendations as well. All I ever bought was Black Sea way back when, and it was stolen before I got a chance to hear it.
  20. What I want to know is can he spring for "unemptiable" beer steins for us all now?
  21. Are those the two guys who did Sleep Walk?
  22. I'll be honest: I have no interest in buying this set. Perhaps this is a flaw in my own make up as a jazz fan, but bits and pieces don't appeal to me, and even the poor sound quality scares me off to a degree. I picked up the OJC rerelease of Bird on 52nd Street, and to be honest, have only put it in the player twice. Sounds like this set is more of the same, only worse. I'm sure this set is right up your alley if you're a Bird collector, and probably a must have if you're a student of either the alto or Parker himself, but for me, I think I can find enough Bird elsewhere. If I'd been listening to jazz for thirty plus years the way some of you have, and already had (and devoured) all the Dial, Savoy, Verve etc. stuff and still wanted more, I suppose I'd be interested in this, but I seriously I'll ever get to the point at which this set is the next Bird item on my list.
  23. So in Texas, "a woman's right to choose" is a choice between staying legal and grabbing a smaller cuke? What a pickle!
  24. I'm glad to hear you're still around, Bev, though I do miss your contributions!
  25. I must admit, Bechet sounds good on the instrument. Damned good!
