  1. You must have the patience of Job. I would run stark raving mad out of the room...TWO and 1/2 hours??? ohmigod Oh, it's probably only 30 minutes. But it seems like two and a half hours...
  2. Really? Even "Hud"?
  3. I didn't file; just wasn't that interested. But I find it interesting to see some of the names of those who did, who will later go to the political forum and complain about the Democrats being in the pockets of those damned trial lawyers...
  4. My wife has a Julio Iglesias (?) CD that I swear is two and a half hours of pure hell. But maybe I overestimate...
  5. I feel no guilt whatsoever when buying used CDs, and frankly, don't understand the issue. If the artist and the original purchaser weren't able to make the connection, I don't see what's wrong with letting someone else step up and take a shot. That said, I don't buy used that often, and I'm damned picky when I do. I don't care if the jewel case is crap, but inserts and the disc have to be near perfect for me to pick up a used disc in a store. So usually, I buy new.
  6. "What dear? Oh, nothing; just reading the jazz board again..."
  7. Well, since the arrival of the Anita O'Day set was the catalyst for my finally sending for the Mosaic brochure, I'm probably the wrong one to ask, but in my opinion, how can you go wrong with this?
  8. ...and thanks for doing the necessary work, couw!
  9. That's what I was thinking, PhillyQ, although not knowing who he was made it a stretch. Sigh. I guess I can kiss those dreams of finding fame as a serial killer are out the window now. Thanks for smashing another dream, Berigan! Waaaaaaaa.......
  10. Yeah, but don't make it a 10 day auction, or Jim S. will make the winner an "also ran" anyway...
  11. As our kids are grown up and gone, I guess that explains why I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about...
  12. All this time I thought Billy Paul was her real father...
  13. You bastards!! You didn't tell me Greg was there! I'll never go there again!
  14. Jesus H. Weisenheimer! That makes my back hurt!
  15. So Tod was right? She really is Aunt Bea?
  16. Amateurs...
  17. Personally, I don't see anything funny about all this. I think people with high post counts are pathetic.
  18. Miles was a great synthesist. He didn't invent many ideas, but he (usually) had a skill for discerning which ones were worth adopting and which parts had the most to offer. (I say usually because it took him a few years to get a clue about free jazz.) And when he took them in, he (1) combined them in novel way, (2) integrated them into their music and (3) made them sound GOOD. Excellent descriptions you guys. I've mentioned this before, but it drew no comments (probably because it was interpreted as insulting by Miles fans!), but I always think of Miles in jazz as being very similar to David Bowie in rock. Both could spot the trends early, pick out the best, find excellent musicians, and put out some ear-catching music that changed the course of their genres.
  19. Getting back to the point at hand, I think Berigan is overly suspicious. Probably a result of all those posts he made as "Junk Bond" on the old BNBB...
  20. I vote we all chip in and send Tod over to Mount Pilot for some o' that take out stuff for dinner; I hear tell they got a hamburger place there that you don't even have to get outta your car fer to eat!
  21. I think Miles led some great bands. His second quintet in particular I love to hear. And that John what's-his-face in his first quintet was kinda nice as well. The problem is, I don't care for his tone either. And by the time we get to "Bitches Brew", I think he's taking this "carefully chosen notes" bit to the absurd. I'm sure I'm wrong, but oft times, I don't think Bitches Brew would sound that different if you just edited Miles' trumpet out of the mix... Even with the earlier stuff, I find myself being more of a Coltrane and Shorter fan than a Miles fan. (And not just those two, all the musicians in Mile's two quintets were miles ahead...sorry...of Davis in my estimation.) Admittedly, the fact that the sound of a harmon mute seems to make my ears bleed doesn't help...
  22. Do I know you, sir?
  23. Just not yet, though! Please let me be "Dr. Funkenstein", if only for a day...
  24. I voted "don't care", because, believe it or not, I have strong feelings for and against. Hell, I'm so emotional I have strong feelings for and against anything. As for my post count, anyone who doesn't know I run my mouth too much hasn't been paying attention anyway, so who cares?
  25. Yeah, I thought about that old "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought him back" bit, but in this case, the cat ain't coming back!
