  1. I tried, but then decided it was easier just to go ahead and order the darn thing. Thanks, everyone!
  2. Wow! I thought it was getting pretty crowded in here!
  3. You know, I picked this one up when I was in the midst of my "Lee Morgan Completist Fever", and I'm not sure I can even remember it...time to hit the shelves!
  4. I hear you, Brad. I'm kind of embarrassed that I'm just getting around to it now. The only Bird I have is a handful of live discs (including The Quintet and Bird 'n' Diz, of course!) and one disc on the Music Club label of Dial stuff. Its an oversight that should have been corrected ages ago. I can't wait! The only drawback I can see with these two sets (if you can even call it a drawback!) is that it's all going to be "careful listening" stuff, if you know what I mean. I may not finish the first listen to both sets for months. Then again, as much as they're busting the budget, that had better be the case!
  5. Thanks, Chaney;I guess it should have been "posted by the Red Menace, I believe...", but I'm sure glad to see it again. A true classic!
  6. This looks like a good place to ask this...I know that some were archiving certain threads from the BNBB as it was going away. Did anyone happen to save that absolutely hilarious parody of the Ken Burns jazz series, I believe written by the Red Menace (although with my memory, who knows?)? I can't even remember what thread it was on...
  7. Good lord...I hope no one thinks I'm here as often as my name appears; I just forget to log off most of the time. If that was a real indication, I'd be spending 24 hours a day on (at least) two different jazz boards most days...
  8. In the past, I've gone through serious obsessions with (in order) Coltrane, Miles, Monk, Metheny, and Lee Morgan, but I seem to be between obsessions at the moment.
  9. Whoa! If the other comments hadn't already pushed me over the edge, this one would have given me a swift boot! Thanks guys; I think it's a go. Brad, the variety of this set is what attracts me; I want to be overwhelmed! Just to get me back in your good graces, I'll let you know that part of my "taking advantage of Mosaic" will be finally getting that Savoy/Dial Bird set! Man, this is going to be good...and I'll be so broke, I'll have plenty of time to listen!
  10. Guys, I'm still trying to make my mind up on how I'm going to take advantage of this Mosaic/True Blue sale! The problem isn't what to get from True Blue, I've worked that out pretty well. The problem is the Mosaic sets. For some reason, this one keeps popping up in my mind. Anyone out there got it? Like it? Hate it? Good but not essential? (I always hated that, "not essential"...jeez!) Any comments would be appreciated!
  11. Way to go! Timing is everything!!
  12. Remember Rockefeller at Attica-Charles Mingus Okay, maybe not a popular tourist destination...
  13. Today was really weird. It seemed to go down while I was here, and with a little work, I could actually get around. But I noticed there were only four or five names on the active list at the time. Finally it booted me out for good until a short time ago. Pretty annoying, but whatcha gonna do?
  14. Didja get my reply?
  15. Nah, it's not that bad. 3 stars, maybe 2.5 if you're being harsh. Guy In all honesty, I'll add one star if someone can tell me how to filter out a certain spouse's vocals...
  16. Uh.... The listing says it all; what can anyone add?
  17. I must admit that I'm a fan of larger bands, so keep that in mind when I say that this is my favorite Lovano disc. I love it!
  18. I have to agree with you; I'd give it half a star only because of the existance of AOL discs everywhere, which suck up all the "no star" ratings...
  19. Blue Cheer on Bandstand? The mind boggles!
  20. So I guess this means that Nigerian prince you vouched for isn't really going to send me that Buddy Bolden cylinder...
  21. In Seattle it's "oh look, it's raining again!" But seriously, I agree with slsmcgrew; it is a great area, or at least was back in the 60s and 70s. I understand there are waaaaaay too many Californians up there now, though...
  22. I heard Milestones on the radio today; this one is definitely on my short list!!
  23. I don't think so, but it's a fantastic disc. It's my favorite of Redman's stuff, and Pat really shines on it.
  24. Yeah, you and Johnny could get together and have dinner out, compare jazz collections, and then argue about politics until they threw you both out of the restaraunt! (Hint: don't eat at the Space Needle; it's a long fall!)
  25. It was horrible out here for a couple of weeks or so, (well...California horrible, but you get spoiled out here after a while!), but as DrJ says, the last week has been pure heaven!
