  1. Some absolutely killer Michael Brecker solos on this set ...
  2. After the recent batch of Lee Morgan SHM-CDs, I wonder if this series (loosely construed as a "series") will now proceed artist-by-artist.
  3. Woody Shaw sounds great on the sample from Understanding. Just when I was on a spending hiatus ...

    Tubby Hayes

    Japanese reissue: August 11th.
  5. Seeing reissue in Japan, August 11th.
  6. Reissued in Japan on August 11, 2021.
  7. Well said. I had the same impression. That segment was the highlight of the documentary for me. I did have one (small) gripe — they spliced up and voiced over Sonny Sharrock's solo! I wanted to hear it start to finish ... unedited! It looked amazing, but you could only hear snippets. Questlove gets my highest respect.
  8. So ... Ravi has the "unissued" Seattle broadcast tapes? They've been bootlegged before (if I'm even talking about the correct recording), but an official release is most welcome. Very surprised that a Coltrane "Bootleg Series" hasn't been started much, much sooner, if that's what this indeed appears to be.
  9. Agreed. Expecting something other than what the album has to offer.
  10. The one review of this album on Discogs has got it wrong. This is an excellent free jazz album ... BUT you have to like albums such as Shepp's Live In San Francisco in order to get with the groove. Dulfer can play. No pretending. Shepp & Rudd must have smiled to hear it.
  11. I just discovered this album today: Theo Loevendie: bass clarinet, piano, soprano saxophone Maarten Altena: bass John Engels: drums recorded March 19-20, 1967, Amsterdam Anyone here know this album? I'm surprised John Corbett has never included it in any of his reissues of rare European free jazz over the years. It certainly fits the bill as far as genre and time period. I've only heard one track on YouTube so far. He also has a 1970 album titled Mandela that looks really interesting.
  12. With extra material hopefully! This was beautifully recorded, one of my very favorite Taylor albums. Everyone was "on."
  13. Listening to "Sonnymoon For Two" off the Monterose album right now. I wonder if Sonny Rollins ever heard this version. It's eerie how close Monterose's playing is to Rollins here. Would be good blindfold material. Anyone else here know this album?
  14. How Sun Ra Taught Us To Believe In The Impossible, by Hua Hsu
  15. Finally seeing a compact disc reissue as part of Solid's Jazz Premium Seats series. Equally thrilling is the first (?) compact disc reissue of Hans Dulfer's Live In Paradiso: If you are a fan of Archie Shepp's 60's work, you need to own the Dulfer.
  16. You have to wonder — what was the imperative for making new cover art?
  17. I've been noticing that the price on used Garland titles (and a number of OJCs for that matter) on eBay and Amazon has been going up. Even the eBay seller "decluttr" has steeper than usual prices. I'm always wary of purchasing OJCs new these days — it seems, more often than not, they end up being CDRs. ImportCDs unfortunately sells OJC CDRs now (with no mention of such). Most (?) new Keepnews Series compact discs these days appear to be CDRs as well.
  18. "Completed"?

John Coltrane is in fact: • Clean Horn Jot • Colon, Then Jar • Neon Arch Jolt

I'm in the Anagram Vortex. I just discovered that Miles Dewey Davis is, among other contortions: • Dismayed Weevils • We Advised Smiley • Semi Deadly Wives • My Swiveled Ideas And what do other artists conjure?
  22. The Internet Anagram Server tells me that Plas Johnson is at least: • Jan "Nosh" Slop • Son "Slap" John • John "Naps" Slo ... and many, many others.
