  1. I'm listening to Street of Dreams again this morning. The quiet stuff is nice, the big horns overbearing and the technology mostly sounds dated.
  2. I was just getting into jazz, so I listened to a lot of electric jazz. I certainly didn't think of it as fusion. Fusion to me was Holdsworth and Mahavishnu, Lyle came from ECM land where most everything was low key like Bright Size Life.
  3. I love Lyle's first solo album and also Later That Evening. It's too bad he didn't record more outside of the PMG. A reunion with Bill Frisell would be nice.
  4. It is a beautiful tune. I have the transcription book, but never got into it. They say it's tuned down 1/2 step.
  5. Ha! Ok, yeah....the beginning of the album is heavenly.
  6. Really? Rejoicing is a bit of lopsided album for me. I don't really need to hear his synth after a perfect set of straight ahead.
  7. Without even hearing it, I think fans of his more accessible PMG material will love it. This one isn't gonna sound like Painkiller. I was just talking to *my* friend with a Tzadik connection and he says he first heard about this three years ago, so it's been in the works for a while.
  8. Lyle made a high profile appearance at TED in 2011 playing music using algorhythms, using a program he designed. It was a very unique set of music. He has interests in architecture, programming, mathematics and pool. He's also been playing with his quintet over the past year with his neice on vocals. He's supposed to make a new album, which I'm sure will be under the Metheny Group Productions banner and released on Nonesuch most likely if it happens. Thanks. For someone so important, he's living in obscurity.
  9. So what is Lyle Mays up to then? What ever happened to Lyle Mays?
  10. Perfect for John Zorn fans who hate Pat Metheny!
  11. Thanks for the report. I saw him at all the gigs, but really only chatted with him once, years ago. Nice guy.
  12. It almost sounds like an April Fools joke, but there's a listing on the Zadik web site.
  13. There doesn't seem to be much new in that regard. Thanks. I can see they went all out with that extra line of text.
  14. Not young at all.
  15. Sometimes I wonder if they have a separate mike on keith and crank it up in the mix.
  16. I think I'd rather get that + the regular version of the new album.
  17. I guess you have to order it from them, because I'm sure not seeing it in their stores.

    Chick Corea

Yeah! True. That's pretty funny. It's a really stupid idea, but I'd buy that album. Chick tends to be surprising with the kind of groups he configures sometimes. There's been flashes of his free playing days in more recent stuff. Surprised ECM hasn't done a "Circle" box set I'd like that, a Circle box! Just a few weeks ago, I was having a conversation with a friend about a Circle reunion. Why not? What are they waiting for?
  19. Obviously not a fan of Zappa's synclavier music. I think it's brilliant.
  20. Gotta dig it out and listen to it again. In fact...time to listen to all three of these again. I've had Shut Up.. since the beginning as an import and I remember it had some golden moments.
  21. Ditto on Guitar, but I never really put the time into it. Trance/Fusion is another guitar album.
  22. It's OK not like every Zappa album, they're not all my favorite album. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and, doggonit, people like me!
  23. Nice...seems like something I'd like.
