  1. They mentioned that they have some but haven’t posted any yet. They seem to be doing a couple each day. I’m hoping for a Bud Shank or Phil Woods set. I’m in San Antonio but stopped by there several times pre-pandemic. You can find some crazy stuff there, often cheap.
  2. Hey ya’ll, Antone’s Records in Austin is selling some OOP Mosaic boxes, currently Earl Hines for 119.99, Condon Mob for 59.99(!), etc. Posting new ones daily on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. You can find links to any of these sites at http://www.antonesrecordshop.com Yes, same people who have the longtime Austin club and record label. Just a heads up. Also, support an independent record store.
  3. So, I can get King Crimson "On (And Off) The Road" for about $106 total right now on ImportCDs versus at DMG for around $150. My question is can ImportCDs be trusted shipping an LP sized box set? Cheap is great but not if it comes damaged.
  4. I’m jumping at the OTC set, but I wish they had the complete Montreux box. So, if I have the 40th anniversary Bitches Brew box and the 1999 2 CD set, is there any reason to get the Complete Bitches Brew set? I know the contents is different, but is it worth it? Opinions? And is there anything in the Seven Steps box that’s not available on the individual CDs?
  5. PM for Charles Mingus Mysterious Blues, Reincarnation of a Lovebird, Newport Rebels, and Mingus.
  6. Has anyone here bought directly from the Incus Records website? Unlike labels such as Emanem, Ayler, and Leo, Incus specifically lists two prices, 12GBP or $20 per CD. As far as I can tell, these are not equal. So, being in the US, it would seem I should go with the $20 price. However, using the PayPal button defaults to GBP and there seems no way to switch currency. I emailed Incus but they didn’t seem to understand the question but acknowledged that it’s confusing. Maybe it doesn’t even matter, but then why list the different prices?
  7. All their albums are worth getting. Is this band even still active, given the economics of running a big band today? I had the incredible good fortune to see them several years ago for free(!) at a downtown jazz fest in San Antonio. The year earlier they had the Wayne Shorter Quartet. Crazy. But nothing even remotely as good since then.
  8. Sad news out of San Antonio, as reported over various local sources. https://www.tpr.org/post/jim-cullum-jr-jazz-band-leader-and-cornetist-dies-77
  9. Any word on the previous Steeplechase CD orders?
  10. I agree about the old Collectors Choice. But the label folded years ago and apparently their brand was bought. It’s a shame.
  11. I made a contribution. If you can afford even a few dollars, let’s all get behind this.
  12. I’m fine with this, as the alternative is decay, destruction, and/or unavailability. I hope it includes lots of jazz.
  13. I am willing to pay taxes for exactly this sort of thing, if that were an option. in the meantime, is Iron Mountain hiring?
  14. So, is the second offer still on (minus the Threadgill)?
  15. Funny, now that I listen to jazz his music sounds so much different to me. Never paid much attention to him until now but everything about him sounds fascinating. Gotta get my hands on his first album.
  16. I ran into Roky at a grocery store in Austin on Halloween 1996. He bought chocolate and cigarettes. He wasn’t in great shape mentally at the time and someone was escorting him but he was nice. I got the chance to tell him I had his great CD “All That May Do My Rhyme.”
