  1. Thanks both. I managed to figure it out. As far as passing the bar, it took me a couple of times. Not an enjoyable experience, but it’s not supposed to be.
  2. I find that I have little interest in watching old games that MLB and other stations have been pushing; it simply reminds of what we don’t have. I also have little interest in listening to sports talk radio as they’re trying to create conversation where there is nothing to discuss.
  3. NRFS has always been my favorite.
  4. I downloaded the data and was able to open it in Excel. In Discogs I have the Artist information arranged alphabetically, A, B, C, etc. However, when I open it in Excel, it’s all jumbled up. I never used Excel a lot; ask me a question about Word and I can give you a solution. Any advice on how I can fix that column so it comes out the way I want? Thanks.
  5. Hans, I believe their prices are reasonable but I would pick it up for you (if they had it) as they don’t ship.
  6. Princeton Record Exchange may have a copy but it will be awhile before I can get there, if you can wait.
  7. Exactly. I wonder how many non jazz people ever heard of him before. Maybe this article will help.
  8. I think that’s how he really is. Just don’t throw wipes and paper towels down the toilet. It’s common sense. Anyone who has a septic system knows you don’t do that.
  9. You can have the data exported from Discogs easily but it wasn’t in a format you could manipulate; at least I couldn’t.
  10. I’ve been uploading items into Collectorz and I like it a lot. One of its best features is its ability to read barcodes. IMO, this is one of the biggest problems with Discogs. I suggested that to them but received no reply.
  11. Geese May Not Inspire You, but They Certainly Take Your Mind Off the Virus
  12. That was a bit of a jest. For the last few months crews have been trimming trees that may interfere with wires. There is cut wood all over the area although people have taken the smaller pieces from public land; they’re there for the taken. These particularly large pieces were on some public lands near my home.
  13. The era of successful plaintiffs cases may be over for awhile. The ‘Blurred Lines’ Case Scared Songwriters. But Its Time May Be Up. “In the five years since a federal jury decided that Robin Thicke’s hit song “Blurred Lines” had copied Marvin Gaye’s disco-era standard “Got to Give It Up,” the music industry has been in an anxious state about copyright. That case and others raised serious questions about the legal protections available for music: When does homage become plagiarism? When does a common chord progression become one songwriter’s property? Songwriters and producers worriedthat their next hit could make them the target of a lawsuit. But the tide may be changing, after two court decisions this month addressed important aspects of how copyright applies to music — and, in many cases, may make it more difficult to prove that one song copied another.”
  14. I’m not sure I totally understand some of the questions. You can follow distancing and still take out. Our favorite Chinese restaurant, one of the few authentic ones in the area, is closed. They’re not sure when they will reopen. The other one near that we mostly use for takeout (American style Chinese) is open.
  15. Relying on my memory is what made me keep a list of what I have
  16. A fascinating look at how the Doors wrote and made Riders on the Storm.
  17. Although I’m sure the Wikipedia entries are correct, it’s not what I consider a reliable source. My go to site on looking at an album is All Music.
  18. When it comes to certain Japanese CDs, it has quirks. It will upload basic information as artist, title and name of song but not the album cover or the length of the songs. Of course, you can fix that yourself but it’s a bit more time consuming. Right now, we all have a lot of time You have a free trial period of seven days. After that, payment kicks in unless you terminate. It’s $15 per year, which seems reasonable.
  19. You can use barcode entry in Discogs. I looked at Collectorz and what I like is that you it can scan a barcode. You can’t do that with Discogs. I may gave it a try.
  20. I catalogue all my CDs alphabetically in a Word document, except for Mosaics and box sets. I started doing this because I wound up buying some duplicates. I don’t rip my albums to iTunes or any other online medium; I prefer the hard stuff. I use Discogs for my rock collection, as it’s infinitely smaller (only about 300 CDs and LPs) than my Jazz collection . It was a little time consuming when I first did it but found it useful. If they don’t have a particular version, you can input your own; I’ve done this on a couple of occasions.
  21. Not much baseball but this is a nice story. How the final out of the World Series felt for Nationals fans around the world
  22. I was able to speak to Tony Williams a couple of times years ago and was fortunate to purchase the following: Jay McShann Orchestra Featuring Charlie Parker - Early Bird - Spotlite Jazz 220 Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Berman and Fats Navarro on Dial – The Complete Dial Sessions (1946-1948) - Spotlite Jazz 132 Dexter Gordon - The Complete Dial Sessions - Spotlite Jazz 130 Dodo Marmarosa on Dial - The Complete Sessions (1946-1947) - Spotlite Jazz 128
