  1. Had my last one in mid February. Have tried to trim my hair a little each day. The hair cutters will be busy at some point.
  2. That article about sums it up. Throw in concerts, movie and theatre going, basically any large gathering. Economically, I don’t see how some organizations will survive this. AMC Theatres is facing bankruptcy right now. AMC theaters in talks to hire bankruptcy law firm Weil Gotshal amid coronavirus shutdown
  3. When you say you have the three Chess boxes, do you mean the Hip-O Select ones? The one I was referring to in my original post was this one, which I assume is the one in your last sentence.
  4. I don’t think you want to get your labels wet. That’s why they make label covers. Here’s one example, https://www.amazon.com/Groovmaster-Label-Saver-Record-Cleaner/dp/B00NP0QAOW I’ve never previously heard that microfiber cloths are bad for vinyl. When it comes to cleaning records, there is no shortage of suggestions and dos and donts. Finding one that works for you is the hard part.
  5. Not a feral cat but we have been feeding an outdoor cat for a couple of years, Little Harold we call him (as we have a Tuxedo called a Harold). We’re not actually sure if he’s an outdoor cat because his coat always has a nice sheen to it.
  6. I also stalled when I tried to read The Plague several years ago. I still have the book. Maybe I will restart eventually.
  7. You can buy covers to place over the label if you clean them by hand. If you use a Spin Clean or similar device, the solution won’t touch the label.
  8. RIP. Part of one of the greatest lineups ever (IMHO, of course).
  9. I fixed the link but yours is the right one, sorry.
  10. Record stores could be and probably will be in trouble because of the virus. Record Stores: Coronavirus ‘Could Be the Death Knell’ For Indie Retailers The record store in my town says it will reopen but I have my doubts.
  11. At first, I’d go with something like Spin Clean. Similar to Spin Clean but cheaper is a Studebaker cleaning system, https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07K8YTMDC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title I've been planning to upgrade to something better like a Nitty Gritty but haven’t pulled the plug yet.
  12. I hadn’t heard of L’Art du Son but will check it out. If you’re going to clean records, as mjazzg noted, use distilled water. I’m not exactly sure why distilled water vs regular water but I believe the latter has minerals in it that can hurt the record. All I know is that it’s accepted wisdom to use distilled water.
  13. I’ve posted a few links to discussions on the Hoffman Board and found those to be helpful. If a record is dirty, a good cleaning will help not only the record but also your stylus. However, if a record is damaged and by damaged I’m assuming you mean scratched (and not just light scratches), a cleaning is not going to undo the damage although it may sound a little better.
  14. That is what I have done. For me, acetaminophen (Tylenol) does very little; I find aspirin more effective. However, I’m trying to avoid aspirin where I possibly can.
  15. I have an accountant who does ours and they will be filing during the extension period.
  16. There was a program on PBS recently called Chuck Berry: Brown-Eyed Handsome Man that was pretty good. It used some excerpts from this 1972 program from the BBC, which I thought was excellent, Sounds for Saturday:
  17. From what I’ve read the Chess Box issued by MCA sounds a bit sanitized, although it’s still readily available. Back in 2007, Hip-O Select issued a box called Chuck Berry Johnny B. Goode: His Complete 50s Chess Recordings, which received very good reviews. Of course, it’s sold out and a little pricey.
  18. The suit has been dismissed. According to this article in the New York Times, Judge Dismisses Case Against Universal Music Over Losses in 2008 Fire, the only remaining plaintiff was Tom Petty’s ex-wife. It sounds like the case was dismissed because she didn’t have standing to bring the suit since Universal owned the masters to Tom Petty’s recordings.
  19. Angry Fans Say First the Concerts Were Canceled, Then the Refunds “Ticket vendors are being criticized for treating the thousands of live events that were called off as postponements, on which some do not offer refunds.”
  20. A nice photo.
  21. Cortisone is an anti inflammatory and anti inflammatories, particularly NSAIDs (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) are thought to exacerbate the effects of the virus. I have avoided all pain relievers other than Tylenol.
  22. John, thanks very much.
  23. My sister just called me. My cousin Micky, who was my Mother’s first cousin, passed away from the Coronavirus; I’d guess she was around 90 and they lived in Long Island. Unfortunately, her husband Bruce, who has a great sense of humor, is showing signs of the disease . The only person now left from that generation is her sister who now lives in Arizona.
