  1. PayPal doesn’t necessarily bring bank accounts together; the money in your PayPal account and CC are the first source of funds. Besides interbank transfers and PayPal, there is also the possibility of Venmo, which is quite popular with many and in some quarters has superseded PayPal.
  2. I’m not going to address whether a debit card payment is an interbank transaction because the topic is complicated. PayPal acts as an intermediary to bring payees and payors together. When a payor makes a debit card payment, it’s usually to a merchant. For a there to be a debit transaction between two similarly situated person such as a record buyer and record seller, you’d need a third party to act as intermediary. I’m not sure — but am glad to be proved wrong — our debit card system is set up like that.
  3. I’m not sure of the answer but PayPal took off when eBay started to use them. Interbank transfer is not a concept that we are generally familiar with in this country.
  4. Here’s an article about books that, as the author puts it, “evoke a sense of place so strong that they make me forget, momentarily, that it’s March and I’m inside. Some are new, some old, some longstanding favorites, and some I’ll be reading for the first time. May they take you somewhere, too.” In This Moment of Solitude, Books Can Be Our Passports
  5. Does your wife have a paypal account. If she’s savvy, maybe she could do it.
  6. Hans, glad to hear it. When I can go down there, I will do so.
  7. Same here. It’s a great one.
  8. Thanks both. I managed to figure it out. As far as passing the bar, it took me a couple of times. Not an enjoyable experience, but it’s not supposed to be.
  9. I find that I have little interest in watching old games that MLB and other stations have been pushing; it simply reminds of what we don’t have. I also have little interest in listening to sports talk radio as they’re trying to create conversation where there is nothing to discuss.
  10. NRFS has always been my favorite.
  11. I downloaded the data and was able to open it in Excel. In Discogs I have the Artist information arranged alphabetically, A, B, C, etc. However, when I open it in Excel, it’s all jumbled up. I never used Excel a lot; ask me a question about Word and I can give you a solution. Any advice on how I can fix that column so it comes out the way I want? Thanks.
  12. Hans, I believe their prices are reasonable but I would pick it up for you (if they had it) as they don’t ship.
  13. Princeton Record Exchange may have a copy but it will be awhile before I can get there, if you can wait.
  14. Exactly. I wonder how many non jazz people ever heard of him before. Maybe this article will help.
  15. I think that’s how he really is. Just don’t throw wipes and paper towels down the toilet. It’s common sense. Anyone who has a septic system knows you don’t do that.
  16. You can have the data exported from Discogs easily but it wasn’t in a format you could manipulate; at least I couldn’t.
  17. I’ve been uploading items into Collectorz and I like it a lot. One of its best features is its ability to read barcodes. IMO, this is one of the biggest problems with Discogs. I suggested that to them but received no reply.
  18. Geese May Not Inspire You, but They Certainly Take Your Mind Off the Virus
  19. That was a bit of a jest. For the last few months crews have been trimming trees that may interfere with wires. There is cut wood all over the area although people have taken the smaller pieces from public land; they’re there for the taken. These particularly large pieces were on some public lands near my home.
  20. The era of successful plaintiffs cases may be over for awhile. The ‘Blurred Lines’ Case Scared Songwriters. But Its Time May Be Up. “In the five years since a federal jury decided that Robin Thicke’s hit song “Blurred Lines” had copied Marvin Gaye’s disco-era standard “Got to Give It Up,” the music industry has been in an anxious state about copyright. That case and others raised serious questions about the legal protections available for music: When does homage become plagiarism? When does a common chord progression become one songwriter’s property? Songwriters and producers worriedthat their next hit could make them the target of a lawsuit. But the tide may be changing, after two court decisions this month addressed important aspects of how copyright applies to music — and, in many cases, may make it more difficult to prove that one song copied another.”
  21. I’m not sure I totally understand some of the questions. You can follow distancing and still take out. Our favorite Chinese restaurant, one of the few authentic ones in the area, is closed. They’re not sure when they will reopen. The other one near that we mostly use for takeout (American style Chinese) is open.
  22. Relying on my memory is what made me keep a list of what I have
  23. A fascinating look at how the Doors wrote and made Riders on the Storm.
  24. Although I’m sure the Wikipedia entries are correct, it’s not what I consider a reliable source. My go to site on looking at an album is All Music.
