  1. Where have you been?
  2. I assume Callaway may bat him lead off to give him a chance to beat the record but I think it would also be fitting if the two brightest stars in NY Sports shared the record. Still think the Yankees will win. It will come down to Yankees Houston and I think the Yankees will win.
  3. I understand that but I think the team with most appeal to him is the Padres.
  4. They got a little bit of payback last night even though it had no bearing on the divisional race as the Brewers lost too. The rumors are that the Padres, Mets, Angels and Phillies are interested in Maddon. I think he will go to the team with the most potential, which would be the Padres although I’d love to see him with the Mets.
  5. I’ve always loved this song but unfortunately Deep Blue Something never did anything after this. The tune is catchy, the lyrics are pretty good and it reminds you of a great movie, Holly Golightly and the sublime Audrey Hepburn. Lyrics:
  6. His one on Harriet Beecher Stowe was pretty good as was his one on early American history.
  7. The content is not as good as it is here as there are only a few threads but the Listening to Jazz and Conversation, and the Jazz Beat are good threads. I think some people were driven away such as Paul Secor. I’ve also had a couple tell me that they had it. This Forum used to have a lot more participating members than it does now.
  8. I looked at all the editions and they do. The 2 Cd version is all that I need.
  9. He’s written some interesting books.

  11. Ted, we could use your staying here. Too many have left already. However, if you do there are a few good threads at the Hoffman Forum. You’ll see a few familiar faces but best of all, no BS. Just people enjoying the music.
  12. I was in Chicago last weekend and saw portions of the Cardinals series. That was a killer but it was already trending downwards after they lost 2 out of 3 to the Reds in the middle of the week. They were in it until then and that was basically the season so I don’t see any point in Maddon playing this series full tilt. The players’ hearts aren’t in it and he’s probably gone after Sunday.
  13. You just did but we want you alive. Wonder what is the Twins’ mindset?
  14. I really like Jerry’s singing; he’s got a very distinctive voice. Same with Weir. However, GD are more than just one singer. It’s the collective whole, the distinct sound.
  15. I think in today’s climate the title would not pass muster with a publishing house or a label.
  16. Did you try the Hoffman Forum. Might be a more receptive audience.
  17. I watched the the Long Strange Trip series on Amazon and although I obviously knew about the Deadheads I had no idea how devoted they were or how they taped performances and traded tapes until I watched the show. Great show. The way Garcia looked at the end of his life had certain parallels to Bird I think. Garcia looked like he was 20 years older. If you ever decide to sell that Europe 72 box, let me know
  18. I don’t have that box set. I was never a big fan when I was younger; the only album I had was Workingmans Dead (a classic, of course); but I’m starting to listen to them a lot lately. However, their discography is humongous. Real fans must be in the poorhouse.
  19. They’re Coming to Take Me Away by Napoleon XIV. A classic, from 1965 or 66
  20. I just ordered this a little pricey but looks like it's worth it. When I was looking over the track list, I saw Sopwith Camel, which dredged something from my addled brain. I seem to have a vague recollection of them but nothing more. Looking forward to this set. Is the Warlocks song by the group later known as the Grateful Dead or one by the other group, which forced Jerry Garcia's group to change its name?
  21. Back in May, JazzWax had a column on Hank Mobley in Vocalese where she and several artists were featured. They were all good but I was impressed by her. I've sampled some of her work that she's posted on YouTube. Good stuff.
  22. I will go up to the attic tomorrow and see if I still have them.
  23. Jefferson Airplane takes a cruise.
  24. This doesn't exactly address the point but when I lived in Barcelona in the mid 60s, the record stores would get all the majors but the coverage on lesser known artists was a bit spotty. For those, we'd have to listen to Radio Luxembourg. I seem to remember that my friend, who had a reel to reel, would tape their programs and after school and on weekends we'd listen and discuss what we were listening. I also had my own reel to reel, which I received a little later as a gift from my parents for making Honor Roll. Still have it (couldn't bear to get rid of it) but haven't listened to it in years and have no idea what's on the tapes, assuming I still have them.
