  1. Whether it’s licensed or not, their CDs are supposed to be extremely loud, as Lon noted. See this thread on the Hoffman Forum, which universally pans them, https://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/culture-factory-usa-audiophile-cds-what-are-these.318072/ It’s relatively short for a Hoffman thread, only three pages.
  2. That’s unreal. I was at my local record shop last week (a small place in my town) and the owner told me he sells more vinyl than CDs.
  3. It was a hell of a match, a match of ups and downs. I watched almost all of the Open this year and it was the match the Open needed -- almost 5 hours long. Medvedev may be the future but I find all the interesting players to be on the women's side.
  4. I came of age in the 60s so I grew up with all the groups mentioned by Agustin, plus the Association, Paul Revere, Animals, Spencer Davis, Herman's Hermits, Four Tops, and so forth (as my son says, let's not go down memory lane), together with all the other groups who were one hit wonders or didn't enjoy much success like Question Mark and the Mysterians, Napoleon XXIII (They're Coming To Take Me Away, a classic) and so on. I also listened to Tom Jones before he went Hollywood and Englebert Humperdinck. Segue to the 80s and I just didn't hear much that interested or moved. A lot of forgettable pop although I'm sure it means something to people who grew up at that time just like the pop in the 60s means something to me. For a long time I didn't listen to the music of my childhood as I gravitated to blues and jazz but now I find myself returning to those halcyon days. I'm sure there is good music being made these days but I go back to the music of my youth.
  5. Maybe it speaks to the quality post 1980. Anyway, listened to this the other day. "Up against the wall...."
  6. That thread just goes on and on. I don’t have any of these records but there comes when a point where you’re letting these matters predominate over the music itself. This may be a stupid question but wouldn’t Rudy have had the same problems?
  7. Culture Factory has released a line of what they call CD Mini LPs but on their site (which loads very slowly) they are only non jazz. People on the Hoffman Forum have discussed their releases and the opinion is mixed.
  8. This article by Noal Cohen goes into his life overseas. Herb Geller - A Career Retrospective
  9. That's going to piss some people off.
  10. Many people today would not know what you are not talking about. My Mother did S & H green stamps.
  11. If I could live in Paris, I'd do it too.
  12. I'd think this would be the case. Maybe labels are keeping production low because more people than before stream their music.
  13. Thanks. I will do that.
  14. Getting back on topic, can someone ask Jim. There are people who want to join.
  15. I forgot how good this album is.
  16. Some people on the Hoffman Forum would like to join here but can't find a link to register. I can't find it myself; I signed out too. Does anyone have any answers?
  17. I’m not sure that’s the case because U.K. items are priced higher to begin with. For example the Henderson Tone Poet LP on Amazon US is $27. In the U.K., it’s £29 or $35, not to mention you have to pay for shipping.
  18. I tried but couldn’t get into it. I may take your suggestion though.
  19. Guess I’m a quarter smart then!
  20. I’ve never thought of filing anything for jazz by genre or label. I have everything arranged A-Z. Mosaics are arranged by number. Obviously, my rock albums are separate.
  21. BN all the way. I have 16 CDs, all but one BN.
  22. I just finished this and it's a terrific book and it's in part a history about the Jews of Zakho in Kurdistan, one of the oldest Jewish communities in the world, and how they were exiled to Israel, a memoir (written by his son) of Yona Sabar, one of those Jews of Zakho, who progressed from boyhood in Zakho to exile in Jerusalem to a very respected Professor of Near Eastern Studies at UCLA and a rapprochement between Yona and his son, who never tried to understand him and wanted to ignore his Kurdish roots.
  23. Marrying a Jonas is a bit surprising!
  24. Isn’t that Priyanka Chopra, who was in the tv series Quantico?
