  1. Looks like quite an eclectic mix.
  2. You mean there are owners out there as cheap as the Wilpons (Mets owners)? No way!
  3. I’m not as pessimistic as some Yankee fans are. Yes, it would have helped big time had they gotten a starter but their SP is not terrible and if they get Severino back, it will be like acquiring a starter. Moreover, they don’t need their starters to go seven because of their bullpen and if they get Betances back, it will that much better. Obviously, I’d like to have three terrific starters like the Astros do but I wouldn’t count the Yankees out.
  4. There were some big deals but only one, it seems, involving a bonafide contender. I thought the Yankees would at least obtain someone like Robbie Ray but perhaps teams asking too much combined with the Yankees believing that Severino would be back in September convinced them that they should hang onto their chips.
  5. Not Trotsky TROSKY. Column on Hal Trosky by Steve Wallace.
  6. Yes, the AL won 9-7 and Hubbell struck out some great players like the Babe, Lou and Joe Cronin. That was a hell of a fight, as these baseball fights go. The Reds manager has to be in some trouble with MLB for coming back out after he had been ejected.
  7. No, he’s not. The main character in the movie, an actor whose glory is fading, lives next to Sharon Tate and Roman Polanski on Cielo Drive.
  8. They finally tired of Bauer, especially after Sunday. Their return is far greater than Puig. They received from the Padres a player by the name of Franmil Reyes, who is having a very good season, a reliever and two prospects, one from the Reds and one from the Padres. It sounds to me like the Indians came out on top on this one. If scouts were watching last night, Syndergaard impressed and Diaz regressed, blowing another save. They need to get him out of there or demote him to setup man. But for all his BS, they might have a winning record.
  9. Article about the two CD set in Jazz Wax: Tubby Hayes: The Lost Fontana Tapes
  10. I think it is. Shows Hollywood as its changing in 1969 and interacts with the Manson Family and Sharon Tate. From what I've read, people consider the Tate Lobianco murders the day that Hollywood changed.
  11. This was mine.
  12. TTK selfie?
  13. You sound like some of the characters in Tarantino's new movie, as the world started to shift beneath their feet.
  14. They apparently have tired of him. Frankly, as a fan I squirm when he comes in. He has blown several games this season that were just killers. He might be better off back in the AL. Of course, if they trade him, I don’t know who the he’ll is going to close.
  15. I recently purchased Life and Fate will try to start that soon.
  16. It's believed now that the Mets will trade their closer before tomorrow and that it may be to the Red Sox. The Mets gave up a lot to get him and we'll have to see what the return is before evaluating the original trade.
  17. I haven’t read it but I’m thinking of buying it. I saw it mentioned in the Times book review last week by one of their foreign correspondents, which piqued my interest, and I read the Times review from earlier this year and it sounds kind of interesting but long. Here’s the review, https://www.nytimes.com/2018/12/18/books/review-anniversaries-uwe-johnson.html
  18. NYRB Classics is having a summer sale on 48 of their books, for those who may be interested. You can save up to 40% on the cover price, depending on how many books you buy. There are some pretty good titles included. See https://www.nyrb.com/collections/nyrb-summer-sale
  19. FWIW, article in the New Yorker on Woodstock and the 38 CD set, Surviving Woodstock
  20. The Mets have a golden opportunity here because for the next 48 hours they’ve cornered the pitching market, including flipping Stroman. If they play their cards right they could come out with a haul that could set them up for the next few years.

Agreed but shouldn’t your post be directed to Milestones.

I don’t really understand this post, sorry. You could say that about many people, like Art Blakey for instance, and I can’t imagine not having or listening to the recordings he made over the years.
  23. Nothing this rookie GM has done makes a lot of sense. However, if they can sign Stroman, it makes more sense. We will have to see if there is another move before Wednesday. They seem to think they can contend for a WC. We will see. I have my doubts.
  24. The Mets traded a couple of pitching prospects for Stroman, neither of which are rated in the top 100. I'm not sure trading prospects for an area that is not your weakness makes sense but it definitely won't make sense if they don't sign him to an extension. Question for Yankees fans. I thought the Yankees farm system was rich with prospects, enough to make this kind of deal. Is this not the case? Apparently, the Blue Jays wanted Glyber and Devi Garcia and the Yankees turned them down. If Madbum or Syndergaard are still on the block, it's going to at least cost something like that.
