  1. How about George Harrison's immediate post-Beatle release, All Things Must Pass? I don't have it (yet), but I've heard from others that it along with Lennon's Plastic Ono Band is one of THE essential post-Beatle recordings to pick up. I have the latter, but I haven't fully warmed up to it yet. I have to be in the right mood to listen to it. IMHO, George put out the best stuff, post Beatles. All Things Must Pass is essential. I still have the vinyl, with the Apple Jam label on the 3rd record in the set! Of all the post Beatles material by any of them, I think this is the best. As I've said before, if this had been considered a Beatles album, it would have been the best, hands down, IMHO. Never really cared for Lennon's post Beatle material. However, it might be worth a re-listen as we all change.
  2. I believe Mark Lewisohn may have written or contributed to some of the liner notes on the Stereo remasters.
  3. I meant that they'd commercially hit their peak, and that they were on their way out. That was the perception on the part of many, and not my opinion. I really can't disagree with that view. My friends and I actually thought that the Stones were a far more interesting band (perhaps because they were blues based) until the likes of Rubber Soul and Revolver came along. Even with those, Aftermath still stands out for me as one of the best albums of the ear. This is not to say that we weren't buying or enjoying the album. Anyway, those two albums were the high point for me at the time. Of course, over the years I've come to appreciate the later stuff just as much.
  4. There is also a Coleman Hawkins which lists USA as the country of origin. There are no substantive differences in the content of the set. But, the booklet is shorter (does not include the second half which was the Japanese liner notes); inside cover of a set I just bought is blank (where the track listing for the first disc would appear--it does appear in other places in the notes and on the back of the box); lettering on the CD's is black (Japanese one is red). Copyright is different also, lists Verve on US one and does not mention JASRAC. Great series and very interesting thread. Is there one on the Benny Carter disc? I have been curious about that one; I have seen a few copies of it and none of them has the liner notes in English; usually it is in Spanish. Does anyone have a copy of this disc w/liners in English? Regards, Baker I don't know if you're asking about the Hawkins one but I have the Japanese version which has the liners in both languages. I also have the Carter one but that one, like yours, is in Spanish.
  5. Received mine yesterday. Nicely done set: good packaging and decent book. Hard to beat the price!
  6. Picture of my son driving earlier this year. First photo with my new Blackberry at the time.
  7. Am I getting this right? Rudy is remastering a Hubert Laws album?
  8. It was ok, nothing that blew me away to be honest.
  9. Speaking of Born Under a Bad Sign, my son was learning that for his School of Rock Blues Show and I gave him the Albert King version and we listened to the Cream version. Just no comparison, not one of their great efforts.
  10. That's what I would assume.
  11. Following on the heels of Claude Schlouch's thread in the Artists section about KD, Stop, Look and Listen will also be out in early 2010. Great news! Here's a link to pre-ordering from CD Universe.
  12. Good news about the Dorham. Any more details about the Dameronias Chuck?
  13. Now the Tigers have joined the Chokers Club: Dodgers, Phils,Mets. Welcome boys!
  14. Got notice of shipping!!
  15. I think Twins will win. The two teams seem to be heading in opposite directions, plus I'd like the Tigers to join my Mets as biggest choke artists.
  16. Have a great jazz filled day
  17. Yes, Happy Birthday indeed
  18. I'm in as well. That price is just too good to pass up.
  19. Thanks all very much. Yeah, the Metropolitans need a lot of help Dan . Thank goodness the season is over. Received a couple of volumes of Beatles Anthology so that was cool
  20. Isn't Lucille what BB called his or do I have that wrong?
  21. Speaking as a Bradford, this thread shows we have way too much time on our hands
  22. If you're going to have the political forum, I don't see the point in banning avatars. Conversely.....
  23. Which is probably why it takes year for a group to get a record out nowadays.
  24. We shouldn't have an obligation to listen to things we don't like anymore (although I think we eventually return to them at some point). As far as nostalgia in music goes, if it brings you back to a different time and you remember it fondly, that's fine. As long as it has meaning to you and enjoy it, so? The choice is yours, no one else's. Some nostalgic things I've listened to, I've said, "oh yeah, that was nice" and that's it; didn't listen to it again. Beatles are different. I'm just enjoying the music without thinking back to those times.
  25. I used to dig them. Bus Stop stands out for me. Any idea why the Beatles hated them?
