The Golson version is one of my favorites although the Shorter group is probably the best. Not really the JMs is the group on the Birdland albums. It's hard to beat the starpower of that five, though.

I don't know if this has been discussed but the old Fantasy web site is now gone. At least I can't find it. I assume it's been incorporated into the Concord site. That's where they mention the Prestige profiles but if you look for the old catalog it's not there and not listed in the Concord site. I'm not sure what to say but we may have lost a great resource.

Jim, It was all whistling. Pretty amazing. I actually found it recently on Limewire. Play it once in a while. My son just shakes his head.

I have this set and it is one of my favorite Mosaics, one of the best they ever produced in my opinion. I'd love to see more of the Master Jazz material out in print.

This sounds to me like rebaked material that one would be better off grabbing in its original format. While we're speaking of Prestige, what happened to the Fantasy web site? It seems to be gone. Is there a link to the new site, which I assume is Concord.

The Honeysuckle Rose referred to in Spontooneous' link was, according to the Stash CD Birth of the Bebop, probably recorded in May 1940. If you can get this cd, pick it up because it's historically significant for having the recordings made by Bob Redcross of Bird, Dizzy and Oscar Pettiford in 1943 in Chicago.

He's referring to the recordings with the Jay McShann Orchestra that were issued in Early Bird from Spotlite 120 (both in lp and cd, although the number refers to the cd version, which I have). I can't be sure but it probably is the earliest recordings of Bird that I know. The 1940 recordings from Station KFBI in Wichita Kansas on November 30, 1940 are I Found a New Baby and Body and Soul.

I picked this up last week from Dusty Groove. According to them, it's taken or culled (as they put it) from Roulette recordings in 1958. I can't find any discographical info on it in AMG so if anybody has any, please post. The music is hellacious. Really top quality Lockjaw and Shirley is divine. This is really worth picking up. I just noticed it's on back order. If you can pick it up. There's nothing extraordinary going on here that you haven't heard before, it's just prime playing from everybody. Very enjoyable. A highlight for me was "On the Street Where You Live" of My Fair Lady vintage.

If you want some good grease, the cd just issued by Lonehill, "The Eddie Davis Trio with Shirley Scott", apparently recorded for Roulette in 1958 is worth picking up. Nothing shockin' is going on here other than some damn fine playing.

I got both yesterday and have listened to the first disc of Jazz Piano. Really fine. Sounds good to me but for those who are finicky it is mastered by McMaster. Haven't listened to the Tolliver yet.

Some of the Argo reissues look good.

It seems that with the new version to import you need to do it in the DVD drive not the normal playback drive. I discovered it by accident this morning and I think that did the trick. So hopefully, that's the end of the issue.
