  1. Yeah! Teddy Wilson, Red Norvo, and Harry Carney and still others. Great record and not just for Charlie Christian's participation.
  2. I attribute my burgeoning interest in jazz to my love of Jimi Hendrix's music as a youngster. I was drawn to things like Rainy Day, Dream Away and I was thrilled to get Rainy Day Shuffle on this expanded edition.
  3. My favorite edition of some of my favorite recordings.
  4. Checked it out today after following some discussion on this site.
  5. I love the mid-size groups Duke Pearson arranged for Blue Note. Partiuclarly fond of this one.
  6. My all time favorites are the boxes dedicated to a record label, and I particularly like the Capitol, Beehive, and Strata East sets. But the one that gets the most play is the H.R.S. set- The Bechet Spanier session is in my all time favorite list;there is some amazing Pee Wee Russell, and the Jack Teagarden/Ellingtonian session is one of all time favorites by him. Other than that it hipped me to the great trumpeter Joe Thomas.
  7. Listened to Paul Gonsalves/Harold Ashby's Tenor Stuff from 1961-pulled from a Fresh Sounds compilation. I believe was the first time I've heard Paul Gonsalves play guitar (in addition to tenor of course).
  8. I had a "revelation" once that all American literature comes from Walt Whitman, but I now recognize that to be at best a passing fancy. Still good to see WW get an immediate acknowledgement here.
  9. I caught Lee a couple of times-the first time I saw him was with Warne Marsh and Bill Evans in New York in '76, but I would have to grow quite a bit to understand what I had seen. Youth is wasted etc
  10. Just getting around to this. I had no idea it even existed until a discussion on this forum led me to it. Thanks.
  11. Wow. Thanks for posting this! I spent many hours digging him around town under often less than ideal circumstances. A friend staying at a downtown hotel (with a nice piano in the lobby) called and asked me if I had ever heard of Phineas Newborn 'cause he had just showed up unexpectedly and was playing a world of piano.
  12. After watching the documentary Jackie McLean on Mars (Youtube), I realized that I needed to get more Jackie in the rotation.
  13. I met him at the offices of Saturday Night Live where a band I was in was discussing appearing on the show (we did not get the gig). He complained pointedly about musical guest Ricki Lee Jones as I picked up a script and read "I'm Gumby, Damnit!" which did not read funny. I really only knew him from that Nino Rota collection pictured above. He was exremely pleasant and really patient with us.
  14. In looking for the above, I found the entire text available for free from Archive.org.
  15. Thank you for posting. I was entirely unaware of the Tri-Centric Foundation having a presence on Soundcloud.
  16. Yeah! I just dug this very disc a few days back and loved it. This worked for me today.
  17. One select would nicely fill in the missing titles between the two large Mosaic Hank Mobley boxes.
