  1. Oh, yes. I did my first tours with Alex and we spent a good bit of time together-mostly doing things that I am not comfortable discussing. The last time I saw him, I carried him by my house after a gig and he played Mercy Mercy Me on my old Gibson acoustic.
  2. Dan Penn produces my old buddy Alex Chilton!
  3. Just listened to this yesterday!
  4. i got quite a kick from listening to this yesterday, so I continued today with Joe Sullivan, Jess Stacy, and Buddy Weed.
  5. I, for one, agree with you entirely on this point. And it has Stevie Ray Vaughn on it!
  6. Utah Smith and his variants on the Two Wings theme are standouts on the JSP set The Guitar Evangelists. I am intrigued that such a thing as this book and cd exist.
  7. Update: thanks to all of you who expressed concern for Mrs.Duckworth-she was perscribed some exremely powerful antibiotics and these are returning her to a healthier state. This suggests that she developed an infection following a standard illness rather than influenza. There is now testing near where I live, but it is very, very limited. We are expecting to have testing somewhat more available by early next week. We fully expect to be able to have her tested at that time, but I expect that the outcome will be good.
  8. Listened to Errol Garner, Amad Jamal (in the trio with Ray Crawford), Earl Hines, and Joe Bushkin, and everything worked for me!
  9. The only thing to fear is.... Mrs. Duckworth has a flu-like infection and was directed via phone to a The Shelby County health department who told her (just two days ago) that they cannot conduct tests for Covid 19. Shelby County has just under 1 million residents and is a hub drawing people from many other counties daily. If there was no testing here as recently as Tuesday, it seems certain that there is a good bit of under reporting of this illness.
  10. As a young Mingus enthusiast I never warmed up to this record. So I carried that initial response forward and never really reexamined this one. Someone posted on this and, sure enough, this is right in my wheelhouse now. Thanks.
  11. I went to my local mega-grocery at 6 am on Saturday to get supplies while largely avoiding crowds and was surprised by the empty shelves-not that there were empty shelves but what kinds of things are being snapped up by ancious shoppers. I took some pictures with my phone to show Mrs. Duckworth and was shut down by Korger employees telling me that I can not do that. I understand that pictures of empty shelves could cause panic among some, but the restriction felt unnecessary.

  14. I teach in the public schools here in Memphis where this morning it was announced that we'll be closed from tomorrow until March 30. I am hoping to get caught up on my listening.
  15. I am really enjoying Phil Urso and Bobby Timmons on this one.
  16. Great early jazz exotica with excellent trumpet from Punch Miller.
  17. Yeah! Disc 3 has the earliest collaborations with Lester Young. I guess those are my favorite records in all of jazz.
