What Classical Music Are You Listening To?

Isn't McCoy Tyner the only BN artist to ever have been listed as "Etc" on the front of a BN jacket? If not, should Norman Connors get the same listing? McCoy didn't ruin any BN date. Edit to add as a sideman for Joe Henderson, and no relation to Wayne's Etc album.

This doc is really, really good. I recorded this almost a week out and missed the King records doc afterwards.

Great interviews and footage I've never seen before. Thanks for RE-posting.

There is going to be a documentary airing on PBS this Friday at 9pm titled Sun Ra: Do the Impossible, which is part of the American Music Masters series, which is the same series that aired the Max Roach documentary.

I get it. It takes me years if not decades to recalibrate my ears to new listening. A wonderful experience when something "clicks" when it didn't before.

Guy Kopelowicz ("brownie"), 1939-2025

I felt something was wrong when he hadn't posted here for a time. RIP to a man who got to see the history of jazz with his own eyes and camera lens, as it was happening in the 60's. Dude went to New York to Judson Hall, and saw and photographed Albert Ayler?!?! Wooowww! "Albert Aylerβs seminal Spirits Rejoice session was recorded live at Judson Hall, New York, on September 23, 1965. Photographer Guy Kopelowicz captured iconic images of the performance, which featured Albert Ayler (tenor sax), Don Ayler (trumpet), Charles Tyler (alto sax), Henry Grimes (bass), and Sonny Murray (drums). CDs that you know you have but cannot locate right now ....
Holy Ghost replied to mikeweil's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Can't tell you how many times I bought a CD I already have. I think I know my collection until I'm at a store in another state and cannot remember if I have it. Most of the time, I don't, but when I am on the fly, I'm thinking, I am going to regret it, if I don't buy it now...then when I get home.... -
That Sal Salvador album sleeve is pretty sweet! Thoughts I like the earlier versions of "Theme From A Symphony" on Science Fiction much more, but the cool freakout on Midnight Sunrise has got to be the coolist I've ever heard Ornette freak out since "Free Jazz". Worth the price of admission alone. π€

Been hot and cold with Ornette in the post Science Fiction years. Have not played this one in almost a decade. I'll break it out. NP

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

Brilliant answer to Moving Pictures! Unlike the records that followed 2112, which got more and more multi-layered and complex, which I really like (love Hemispheres and Farewell to Kings) Signals was not an attempt to "how do you top that?" I think that's what I really like about this album. It is not a follow-up to Moving Pictures. -
I have the UMS edition, can you tell us "Stange Strings" fans if the expanded version is worth the upgrade? Recently purchased the New World Records of Being released at the end of February.

Have been really enjoying this box set. I think I read somewhere that if Paul Desmond recorded a solo record that he was not allowed under contract to record with another pianist? Cool with me. Jim Hall is fantabulous on these sides.
