  1. Baltimore still likely in the AFC, but damn, Buffalo looked like demonball last night.
  2. What do you get when you cop a lick?
  3. Had occasion to play some of his charts at NT, as well as hear various anecdotes about him from fellow Dallas Jingle Rat Dave Zoller. Guys like that...so much musical knowledge. If you didn't learn somethings from them, it was on you. RIP SGUD Missile, and thanks for insisting that I not stop at Nelson Riddle, to go back to Robert Farnon. I did, and am the richer for it.
  4. Just call me a steakholder in this.
  5. Well-marbled!
  6. RIP
  7. It looks like a giant steak.
  8. That's not totally wrong per se, it's just woefully incomplete and terribly cliched. But hey, it's NYC real estate. Bullshit seems built in.
  9. That's valuable!!!
  10. Pretty much, except it was Dallas!!! Additional bonus was Chocolate in the trumpet section and as trumpet soloist! Dallas at the time (late 1970s) was mostly a Tejano, Cumbia, and Ranchera town, but Celia Cruz was huge in pretty much all Spanish-language markets and besides, Dallas had enough a Caribbean population to represent. Thing is, the show had ZERO "crossover" marketing. So it wasn't like the widely marketed Eddie Palmieri "Latin-Jazz" concert of a while back which really WAS a concert, booked into in an auditorium, where the portion of the audience who came to listen was perplexed by the portion of the audience who came to dance, and attempted to do so in the aisles of the auditorium. Dance is essential!
  11. Being in the room (or on the bandstand!) when that room is dancing to the live music is an exquisite interaction with the music. I have to thing that being able to dance along in a hard-wired way. Me, that's something I will never know. Most visceral example of that I've experienced was at a Celia Cruz/Sonora Matanzera "concert" in a vacant grocery store warehouse that had been set up for about 50/50 seating dance floor (seating in the back) There was a local band that played while the crowd came end and got seated and got drinks and all that, pretty sedate. And then the MC came out and did the MC blah-blagh, nothing moved. Then, the downbeat. I kid you not, there was an audible WHOOSH as the tables emptied in unison and in a literal matter of seconds, there it was - packed dancefloor and grooving band, each feeding the other, on and on for the rest of the night. No record alone can replicate that synergy!
  12. Have you seen this? From 2006.
  13. What an odd shelving scheme! Crackers on the top shelf, not sure what below that, Seego(!!!) & canned Hershey's syrup on the rack above a frozen food bin (ice cream?). Reminds me of pre-supermarket grocery stores. They still exist, but in the wake of Wal-Mart, Target, etc. in fewer and fewer places.
  14. Whiskey Grant - Kentucky Callin'
  15. Honestly, Shazam seems to be getting dumbed down lately.
  16. This could be trimmed down to a totally awesome single CD. But sometimes I want to just wade through all the mess just because it's a Cannonball mess. Especially with the spoken intros. But yes, when I cull to one degree or another, Deasy goes first. Always.
  17. Maybe they should have used a younger bad!!!! JK
  18. It got made and continues to intrigue. Success in itself! I wonder what's still in the can...Freddie Hubbard said that Sonny stopped his ,,{Hubbard's) best solos because they were too Trane-ish. So, we know that there COULD be more material in the archive.
  19. Didn't Candy do a gig or two with Prince?
  20. I saw a Tyshawn group a few years ago and they played the living shit out of "Libra". So I think it will be a lively show, with or without a "young" band.
  21. Nobody looked good in the Steeler/Ravens Lite game. Has the proliferation of indoor venues weakened the "weather game" gene pool? Still, glad to see a Steeler win, just to add a little drama for today's game. Texans and Stroud showed up and played hard, but so did the Colts That was a good game all the way to the end.
  22. Well of course it is. But is it good marketing fluff, that's the question...
  23. This one benefits from the addition of additional percussion and the absence of the second electric bass. However, it should be noted that both have vocals. Sound on both is excellent, especially on days when the wind is out of the east.
