  1. Ok, so it looks like Proby didn't necessarily write all of these songs, and that some of them did find their way into Elvis's movies. But there's really no comparison. Elvis is just invisible Proby is full-on creepy. Way ahead of his time, imo.
  2. Still winning!
  3. It's a totally great record.
  4. This has to be one of the more surreal albums I've come across in a while. Proby wrote and performed all these songs, not for Elvis the general performer, but for Elvis movies, the really stupid, crappy ones. And it's like he's determined to be inside the movie himself, doing Elvis with all the weirdness of those movies spinning out of these songs. The song titles give you an idea of just what is going to happen - and it does. It's no secret that I generally have ZERO use for Elvis, but this is a different animal altogether, I don't know that any of these songs made it into any of the movies, and that creates an even more otherness to the music - Proby as Elvis in Proby Elvis moves. Mayby qa parody, but only as a secondary objective. It's a trip, as is so much of Proby in general. Skills AND concept.

  7. This is incredibly detailed research!
  8. We've had multiple 78 advocates here over the years. I've had just a bit of exposure to them and I do not at all scoff at the medium. Them bigass grooves don't mess around.
  9. Isn't Eicher almost blind these days? I've heard it speculated that the blinder he gets, the darker the covers get? Fraility has a power of it's own.
  10. How much wizardry was conveyed via scratchy 78s and even scratchier AM radios? So what exactly is he saving the world from?
  11. "ECM covers"...geez, there have gone through so many different periods,,,I suppose there a very broad underlying unifying esthetic, but That's pretty much a Blue Note LT photo right there.
  12. Howdy! Let's have fun!!!
  13. One of the all-time greats at fucking up your head before it was all done. When it's gone it's gone.
  14. "Just The Two Of Us" is song that my wife and I consider "our song" from our early days. And like other songs on that album, it's a fun one to play!
  15. Earlier than that... that's what was in the stores in the 70s...
