  12. Dude, I got hooked on Balanchine a few years ago. Bought a whole series of DVDs of various live shows over the years Just incredible stuff, at every level. TOTALLY fell in love with Diana Adams too. Check this out: and then the ill-fated Tanaquil LeClercq (there's a documentary about here that is highly recommended) People ask me, they say, hey Jim, what's wrong with the worldwide world of jazz today, and I just say "motherfuckers don't dance no more" and then they go all like, oh, disco that's SO lame Jim, getthefuckoutta here" and I say, no, not disco - DANCE. Look at this, this is total comfort in your body and your mind, the two become the same, and THAT is how you dance, that is how you SWING, and THAT is what's wrong with worldwide world of jazz today. I mean, if you can't get THAT, go join a rock band or something, just pound and plod and go for the cheap thrill. Let MY children her music, and let MY children be free in thier bodymindmindbody. Please!
  13. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2022/09/12/george-balanchines-soviet-reckoning Ok, so Bill Crow's recounting of Benny Goodman's Russia trip is "amusing" in its own way. This, otoh, is some really heavy shit.
  14. Benny Goodman?
  15. Sure you do. We all do. "Owning" the albums...let's just all get over that if it means paying for other people to do what we can do for ourself. If you want the object, then pay the price. Otherwise, develop a network of people who are kind to each other.
  16. Interest slightly less piqued.
  17. The Happiest Millionaire Count Basie Illinois Jacquet
  18. Fully expecting a Spalding backlash, but not from me. I like her and I like this
  19. This is the one my folks brought home for me in the Spring of 1964:
  20. It was a gig. The business needed product so they paid people to provide product. Simple as that, and although the need for THAT type of product might seem mysterious to us today, there were many isolated-y pockets of the country that did not have ready access to regular record stores. So this type of stuff showed up in dime stores, at affordable prices. Plus, you know, not everybody was going to pay attention. Even worse, not everybody cared. Some people just wanted somebody/anybody singing the songs. and at the price points these things went for, they sold enough to keep going for a while. Plus - tax write-offs. always. Marginally cooler than I suspect it would be to hear Bob Dylan sing "I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times"...maybe more than marginally, actually.
  21. Annie Ross Betsy Ross Fannie Flagg
  22. Lex Krakkon - Very Nice Indeed!!!
  23. Purple Levitra - See You At The Bottom
  24. Yes to the record, no to the pricey-ass LP.
